"The ARMS Race"

Whether you're a hard-core gym fantic or a take-it-outside type, we've got all you need to build your best arms this summer-and you'll be surprised at all the different (any yes, fun) ways you can do it !

Good Sports

Turn work into play when you tone up outdoors, says Gunna Peterson, who has trained Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez. as well as pro athletes. Here, he ranks five summer-sun faves on just how much (or how little) they'll benefit your arms

1 Rock Climbing
The muscles: Every arm muscle, back shoulders
The Pro SAYS: "You can really reshape the entire arm if you climb reguarly. It's great to train on a climbing wall or even a treadwall-a cross between a treadmill and a climbing wall that's becoming more popular in gyms-where you can change the angle and the pace of the ascent."

2 Mountain Biking

The muscles: Biceps, triceps, chest, core, back
The Pro SAYS: " Controlling the bike as you go over the rough terrain is an amazing workout. if you're biking on a flat ground, you still use your arms and shoulders to maneuver, but it's less intense."

3 Surfing
The muscles: shoulders, upper arms
The Pro SAYS: "Paddling out is a tremendous workout, especially for the rear deltoids, which rarely get taxed in other exercise. The back of the top of the arms, right above the triceps, will get that toned, rounded look. Paddling against the waves is also dramatic resistance- it changes with every stroke and constantly challenges your body."

4 Paddleboarding & Kayaking

The muscles: Triceps, Shoulders
The Pro SAYS: "If you push yourself and keep a stready pace, you'll aslo get a big cardio benefit, which will help get you lean so you can see the muscles."

5 Golf

The muscles: Shoulders, triceps
The Pro SAYS: "Although it incorporates the arms, the swing comes primarly from your core and legs. Do it for fun, but don't expect any real sculpting."
