I bought my laptop almost a year ago but just recently I started having problems with the sound. Like sometimes, the sound will just not work at all. When i restart, it works again most of the time but it will stop working later again. It's so weird!! How do I fix this? Is there something wrong with the sound card? By the way I have a sony vaio cr120e

hmm try going on the device manager to check if there's a yellow ! then if it doesn't have any go to the control panel and go to sound devices. If you have vista most likely it'll ask that something is enabled and if you would like to disable it. Disable it and if it still doesn't work, you can contact me

If you can't fix it the way the second poster said, and don't want to reformat then..
Normal wear and tear sounds like the cause, and something Sony doesn't cover under their 1 year manufacturer's warranty, sorry to break it to you. You will probably have to pay for part/labor :/
Their technicians aren't going to examine your laptop's sound problem for 20, 40 minutes straight and wait until the sound goes bad again, then fix it. They may say they "we'll take it in and look at it," but then ship it back to you and tell you there is nothing wrong with it. Leaving you out shipping cost, and maybe even a deductible/diagnostic charge from Sony, and a headache.
Did you purchase an extended service plan that covers wear and tear? If so, bring back to the store you bought it from and have them fix it for free.
