I know that there are a lot of hair loss problem threads, but none seem to fit with mine.

I have to admit, around 2 years ago, I took on a VERY unhealthy diet. As a result, I lost A LOT of hair. It is more or less visible to others that I don't have much hair. My friend who has thick hair... I have around 1/3 - 1/2 of what she has.

After my hair is washed and blow dried, everything looks fine. But when my hair gets oily, that's when it becomes very noticeable.

However, it has been 1 1/2 year (hence, the diet lasted 6 months) that I've been eating normally/healthily and I'm doing regular exercise (I lead a pretty healthy life)

The problem: I still don't have much hair (it slightly improved, but not by a lot) and no new hair strands are growing.

What I mean by no new hair strands are growing is that, I do lose hair, and new ones do grow to replace them... but none are growing to replace those I lost during that period of unhealthy diet. Everything seems to be proportional, in the sense that when I lose hair, I don't lose many hair strands.

Also, when I was young, I had thick hair and A LOT of it (my elastics often broke under the pressure of my hair). But now, my hair is thin, very thin.

I'm thinking about going to see a dermatologist, but the waiting list are at least 3-6 months long. I also took a blood test, and they found nothing. Everything seems perfectly fine.

So does anybody have this sort of condition... or knows what on earth is going on?

Have you tried taking multivitamins, Such as GNC Hair Skin and Nails,or Biotin?

It's pretty well known for boosting hair growth

I also lost alot hair a while ago. I changed my shampoo and began to use "Kaminomoto". It's a japanese hair tonic. ^^

Well, it worked for me. biggrin.gif

Bunny: I dunno if I should trust pills. I've tried some before. Nothing seemed to happen =(.

Keilynn: How bad was your hair? because mine are pretty bad =/. My elastics can do like a lot of rounds around my hair.

Not that bad actually. There was just a bigger "hairless" spot at the parting on the back of my head and I had less hair. Some friends told me that so I took photos to see it myself and I went to the doctor. But he said he couldn't see how my hair is different to others (oh yeah, it was a man) and I should better ask a dermatologist and bring a "hair loss diary" if I really think I lose to much hair. I was too lazy actually to count how much hair I lose every day. o_O

So I searched for another method and started to use Kaminomoto and it got better.

I can't judge how bad your hair is because I havn't seen it yet. D:

But if it's really bad you should ask a doctor.

that happened to me when I was in 9th grade >.>. Went on a stupid crash diet and lost a whole lotta hair T_T.

But now I'm taking multi-vitamins, eating alot of fresh fruits and vegetables (and no meat, since I'm vegetarian), and exercising 1 hour a day. I think it helped alot.
But I would still suggest you to go see a doctor or a dietian/nutritionist.

aw too bad =(

I recommended those because i've been active on this forum for a long time, that brand was mentioned quite often whenever I see hair-growth related topics.

yah, maybe the prescribed one works better for you.
Good luck !!

I'm actually going through the same thing, but mine has gotten to the stage where I have an actual bald spot (yeah haha). I've checked with the dermatologist and the cause of this problem is actually still going under research. My dermat. diagnosed it as alopecia areata (highly recommend you looking at that). When I had my blood checked, it showed that I have iron deficiency anemia, and it's very common for those who are loosing hair. Just to inform you what my dermat. told me...
Hair loss is not cause by- -
-stress, although it helps it
-hormones (if your'e on birth control, etc.)
-genes
-hair coloring (I've colored mine countless of times)
-shampoo

Hope that helps a little bit.

^ thanks for your comment... but unfortunately, I don't think I have alopecia areata. I've read enough about it to know that it doesn't resemble my case. Plus, I've had a blood test, and it showed that I have no iron deficiencies.

I'm probably gonna take a appointment with a dermatologist soon.

I would take hair vitamins ohmy.gif Also massage your hair every day and try a milder shampoo and conditioner. Also because of your thin hair, try a olive oil treatment once a week or however many times you think would be good. smile.gif

To massage your hair just take your fingertips (not your nails) and rub them in circular motions all across your scalp while shampooing for a minute or so. Or you could try Dr. Scalp which is this hair massaging thingie.
