If you want to listen to the "real" underground stuff--the stuff that isn't available in the Korean music stores--check out this myspace page: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...riendid=3725010 This person has friended all the indie punk bands in Hongdae, and all these bands have pages (in English!) where you can listen to their music and read about their shows. There are TONS of bands that are amazing and I haven't seen any of them discussed in this forum. So many of the bands posted about here are being called "indie" or "underground"...and they're not. They don't play the music halls or clubs in Hongdae at all and are not considered really "underground" since they are so commercial. They're on freaking Olympus camera commercials starring Kim Tae Hee or car commercials! I'm not saying that they aren't good, but they definitely aren't the kind of groups I would consider to be independent or underground.

Definitely check out the Moonshiners, Galaxy Express, and the Ghetto Bombs.

Well, Ghetto Bombs were in a KT (or KTF) commercial a few years back.

I think I've mentioned those three bands on this site before. The Moonshiners have developed a bit of a groupie following, but Galaxy Express is getting the respect they deserve. Their bassist was a founding member of Rux, Captain Bootbois, and Ghetto Bombs. He certainly deserves to be recognised for what he does.

^ I did some back tracking and didn't find any topics regarding most of the bands on the site, so I figured that the majority of the soompiers had no knowledge of them.

Galaxy Express is quite fun live--I saw them last weekend for their album release at FF's and at Rolling Hall a month or so back. I liked their show at Rolling Hall better than FF's...the moshing was a bit much for such a small venue and some hoe sprayed beer all over me and some other girls. :annoyed: The Moonshiners...yeah, they definitely have their share of fanboys/girls, but they were good to watch, too.

Yeah, Moonshiners are definitely the best in the retro-style '50s rock bands. I'll take them over Rock Tigers and Oh Brothers any day. The Royal Winks aren't bad, although they're probably a little too scary looking for average Koreans to get into.

Have you been going to shows long? Ever been to Skunk or DGBD?

the vocal/lead guitarist (?) for the moonshiners is incredibly good. no doubt that there are a lot of great guitarist in korea, but he's the first one where i watched him perform (albeit broadcast) where i was like wow.

As much as I like the Moonshiners, they're not really a punk band, more like a rockabilly revivalist band, although they are the best of their kind in Korea.
