Jam contains both fruit juice and pieces of the fruit's (or vegetable's) flesh, however some cookbooks define Jam as cooked and gelled fruit (or vegetable) purees. Properly, the term jam refers to a product made with whole fruit, cut into pieces or crushed. The fruit is heated with water and sugar to activate the pectin in the fruit. The mixture is then put into containers. The following extract from a US cookbook describes the process.

In the U.S. and Canada, the term jelly refers to a type of clear fruit spread consisting of firmed fruit (or vegetable) juice made with pectin. In British English, these products are commonly referred to by the terms fruit spread or preserves, although jelly is also used in some instances, for example mint jelly. Jelly can be made from sweet, savory or hot ingredients. Jelly is made by a similar process to jam, with the additional step of filtering out the fruit pulp after the initial heating. A cloth "jelly bag" is traditionally used as a filter.

isnt jelly cheaper than jam as well? correct me if i am wrong.
in my opinion, it is easier to find strawberry and grape jellies than other types of whole fruit or partial jams.

I've always noticed the difference. For example, strawberry jam usually has some seeds in it or some whole strawberry pieces in it (unless you get seedless spreadable jam). Jelly has none of these pieces in it giving it a smooth easily spreadable consistency.

I think my mom buys jam, since there's like two jars and one has rasberry and you can see the seeds...

Do you have food network? I suggest you watch that.

Have you really went out to buy a can of jam and jelly at the same time and just looked at the two? I mean if you put it in like a sandwich it really wouldn't be the same.

BTW, shouldn't it occurred to you to google it? I mean I don't think you're dumb or anything, but really. come on.

Jam is a natural way to preserve the fruit.
Jelly is somewhat the same, but you only get the jellied juices of the fruit and it's loaded with lots of sugar.
Jam uses natural sugar from the fruit.

THEY ARE CONSIDER THE SAME THING. "Jelly" is a nickname of Jam, or should I say "OTHER NAME FOR JAM"
For little kids, they like to say JELLY cause it sounds fun for them while JAM is more used to adults.

I like Jelly better than JAM cause JAM sounds like music >__<
