He did. And so did his son.
When he saw the awning collapsing, he somehow unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the way.
It was actually only the corner of the trailer that hit the corner of the awning, so it collapsed on the side of the truck.
Neither driver nor passenger had serious injury.

That bank needs to sue the contractor. No way an awning should collapse in that manner.
