I'm going back to Korea for the first time in 8 years
and am afraid my friends won't recognize me cuz I've since gained 50 pounds! eeek!
Some of that's muscle, but most of them... not-_-

My back and knees are messed up from doing track, xc, and crew in school,
so I'm lost as to what kind of exercise i can do without risking further injuries.

Soompiers, I need help.

I remember when me and my sister revisited korea, and it had
been like 5 years. All my relatives called us fat and that Canada made
us gain weight or something.
It really hurt us.

I mean 3 weeks isn't much time enough for you to lose a lot of weight.
I say just go there, have fun, and ignore any of the negative feedback
if you get any.
I doubt you will, since my relatives are just really out spoken.
Just be yourself! Enjoy the wonderful weather of Korea.
And the FOOD! <3

ok 50 pounds in 8 years would be normal if you're growing. i mean i don't know who old you are, but let's say they saw you last when you were 8, and you were 60 pounds, now you're 16 and 110 pounds, that's is totally normal isnt it?

and you sound pretty healthy since you said you do track and crew and "xc" (?). don't worry, just tone up and have fun.

exercise! as much as you can

gym, outdoors
anything

and each constantly with little amounts of food

but dont eat if your near bedtime

honestly, three weeks, to my belief CAN change weight

so get your nutrients and such but still control portions

and seriously....exercise

3 weeks, I think, will not make some obvious differences but will make some differences!!! It is good to see yourself toned up, even just a little bit!!! I have done OJH Yoga tape for about 3 weeks then I did see some changes! If u have time, You can combine Yoga with Cardio and Diet! the result will be very great!!! Let say, Cardio Mix party in the morning, Yoga in the afternoon (4 hours after eating) and Diet for the whole day!!!! ^^!
Then, Don't try to lose a lot of weights at a time!!! The purpose should be healthy and happy life or st!!! ^^
"Someone just tell me
That its ok now
What are you worried about

Got my dreams, got my life, got my love
Got my friends got the sunshine above
Why am I making this hard on myself
When theres so many beautiful reasons I have to be
HAPPY!!!"

To be blunt, every single one of my Korean-American friends who went back this summer (like 20 of them! why am I not there?!) has been complaining about how fat they are in comparison. They get the typical remarks from their relatives, but it seems they're having trouble fitting into the clothing as well.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but as others have said, 3 weeks is too little time to do anything about 50 lbs. Just accept it, b'cuz Koreans expect their American counterparts to be bigger than them. Plus there's a ton of Korean-Americans there during the summer. And if they don't recognize you, it's probably more b'cuz you're body has matured in 8 years and not b'cuz you gained 50 lbs. Also... is 50 lbs in 8 years really that much? Isn't that normal? How old are you?

Thanks you guys!
I went from 90 to 140 while I only grew 2 inches in height... so it's pretty significant
but i'm just gonna try my best to get in shape and have fun while I'm there.
Maybe I'll lose some during my stay and hopefully will fit into cute korean clothes by the time I come back? haha

xc is short for cross country btw=)

Don't sweat it. Even though there is a higher percentage of twiggy girls here in Korea, there are still girls that would be average or large in the US. Of COURSE you'll look different to your friends--8 years is a hella long time.

ROFL. Yay! 6 months huh? I will be there too! I'd say, "let's meet up" but maybe that's creepy(?) w00t.gif
I actually think just being in Korea, eating good Korean food and walking a lot + working out will shed those pounds fast!
