Castles In The Sky What do you plan to study when you graduate and why?

I had such a hard time deciding 'what I want to be when I grow up' and I just recently decided that I want to study mechanical engineering and specialize in robotics. I don't know where it came from. But the university I want to go to offers it and I think it's a cool sounding job that will most likely develop more in the future.
But I wanted to hear the ideas of other people, especially since you're my age. What are you aspirations and dreams and what led you to those decisions?
Oh and another good questions is, what do you choose, a job that pays really well or a job that, although it doesn't pay as well, is something you love?
To answer that question, I think I pick the well paying job because I would hate to turn something I love into a job. I'll probably start hating doing the thing I love because it turned into a duty.

- Major in Psychology; become a clinical psychologist/social worker
- Major in Music; become a famous music producer
- Major in Japanese; become a linguist
- Major in Nursing; become a nurse (pays well too!)
So as you can see, it's all over the place. I don't know what is the underlying cause to inspire me to become so and so careers, but I think it all comes down to my interests and what I want to purse with it. (Such as music, Asian-related, people-orientated related, etc.)
I do know that I want to have a job that both pays well AND I will love if it enables me to interact with other humans too. I cannot stand a job where I am stuck in an office everyday doing mundane tasks. It'll drive me crazy.

I agree with the office job thing. That's why I was thinking of doing something that builds things and creates.

No wonder you want to be an engineer. I wish you luck in your future career choice, and I envy you as well. I wish I know what I want to do in the future *sighs*

Hey, but you kinda do know what you want to do! At least you've narrowed it down to 4 choices! And you don't necessary have to just pick one, you know?

At least you're thinking. Many students don't even know what to do when they graduate from high school.

Biology with Cell Biology Emphasis.
Cellular and Molecular Biology/Biochemistry Double Major.
Molecular/Cellular/Developmental Biology.
Basic Biology (for schools that don't have an emphasis).
The first two majors are offered at Western Washington University, the third at University of Washington, and the last is generally other schools I'm applying to. I'm more interested in cellular biology, because genetics is pretty fascinating for me.
And, I eventually want to go to medical school and maybe get a Ph.D in genetics.

Hence General studies. But most first year students change their majors after their first year or first semester.
I rather pick something I enjoy doing and good money. I mean it's a waste of time and money if i'm forcing myself to study something I absolutely hate like Poli Sci. I took like 144 hrs (72 hrs each sem, 3 hr lectures ea. I think that's how it's calculated) of poli sci classes and didn't think it was for me.
So now im a Sociology + General Studies major.

Registered Nurses make crap pay, yes. But if you still continue on with school to become a Nurse Anesthetist, you make $100K a year.

Major in Music- I'm a serious flute player and I may have a lot of potential, but unless I get into a school like Curtis or Julliard, I don't think I will make much money. I may minor in music, though and maybe teach private lessons. It would be amazing if I got really really good and could play in a famous orchestra, though.. But considering how many chairs that are open for flute and how rarely they open up, its really.. risky?
Major in Culinary Arts- Baking and cooking is another one of my passions. I adore making things taste and look good. I'm not sure it pays well, unless you're like the main chef of a fancy restaurant. Plus, the hours are bad I think? I don't really mind that, though.
What I'll probably end up doing:
I'm really thinking about something relating to computer and programming. I need to research more.. but definitely something with computer programming. *_* Video games or computer programs or whatever.
And I'll probably at least minor in music.
What my parents (or just my dad..) wants me to do:
Pharmaceuticals. xD I'm not terrible interested in medicine, though.. and I think I wouldn't like it. But he keeps saying it pays well and its a really good and pretty easy job. So many people are being pharmacists these days, though. (Both my parents are pharmacists, so..)
Maybe I'll open a bakery when I'm older.. woooo... *___* hehe.

I'd really like to have a job in commerce. It's competitive but pays good. And I'm especially interested in marketing, so yeah.
I'd rather have a well-paying job. Cause I mean, the job is supposed to make money, not supposed to be fun, aightt.
Oh, and plus the average wage for marketing managers are 90k ;]

OK so, let's see.
I can major in bioengineering. From there, I can either enter the industry directly or stay and get my PhD. If I get my PhD, I'll just stay at a university, become a professor, and do research
I can major in chemical engineering and specialize in nanotechnology. With chemical engineering, I'd probably go on to grad school to get my PhD so I can also stay at a university, become a professor, and research!
I can get a major in engineering and coterm at my college and get my MBA and ultimately go into business. maybe international business?
I can major in electrical engineering and stay in the silicon valley in CA and have some electronic fun
I can major in biology or chemistry and go pre-med. Unfortunately, these majors are extremely tough in my college.
I can major in mathematics (my first love <3) and do...idk? become an actuary, i suppose.
