So, I have insomnia, and I've had it for probably 7 months now. Countless nights I have spent trying to get to sleep, but it just never works! Even when I'm dead tired and hop into bed, I WON'T be able to fall asleep. I've tried pills for a very small while, but I stopped because I was getting scared that it would be dependancy-forming. Don't suggest Melotonin for me either plz, it didn't do jack for me.

This stupid insomnia has affected me greatly for the worse in my day-to-day life like mood, clairity, attention span... etc

Any help/suggestions plz? sleep.gif;;

Do you sleep during the day? If you do try not to.
What I found out about myself is that if I try to sleep a little earlier than usual, I can sleep with no problem. (Around 10-11PM) But if I stay up its hard for me to sleep after that.

What's your sleep time/day schedule like?

It's a small thing, but it's something you could try, and it works for me.
Just make sure your room is as quiet and dark as possible.
Close the doors, pull down the blinds/close the curtains.
I was very surprised, but it actually makes a huge difference

I've had insonmia for over a year now.
And its so freaking frustrating, I know what you mean.
I went to my doctors & tried a couple different set of pills & some worked & some didn't.
I guess it depends on your body.
I didn't form a dependency on it, cus some medications ease the insomnia, not cover it.
Some may help it heal & get rid of smile.gif
Go visit your doc smile.gif

i would love to have a solution for this as well!! ; ; i once used a sleeping pill called like,.. rozerem, and it worked very well without forming addiction, so i'd recommend this. felt drowsy shortly after using and and drifted off to sleep..
just like a month after i stopped using them, i can't sleep again. it's so frustrating and upsetting to not be able to sleep no matter how exhausted.....
it doesn't even make sense -.- often i won't fall asleep the whole night and have to go two days tears.gif
i'd rather not go back to pills.. sleep.gif

Maybe you need to stop watching tv/using the computer/playing video games 1-2 hours before bed. They stimulate your mind too much and keep you up thinking about stuff. So maybe go take a long bath, have some milk or listen to some gentle music before bed... basically do winding-down stuff that relaxes and put you in the mood to doze off. hope this helps.

Hmm.

I have an easy solution to this whenever I need to kick start my sleeping schedule.... Stay up until you can't handle it anymore. Seriously... I would stay up for 48 hours or something or whenever I'm tired and then sleep EARLY (say 8pm or 9 ish). Then force yourself to wake up x hours later (I aim for 8 to 10), stay up for at least 12 hours and repeat. Eventually sleep gets back on track smile.gif
I stopped believing.

Honestly, I'm nocturnal as of today. I couldn't get anywhere near sleepy/drowsy until 9:30 this morning, and then I woke up 6: 40 at night.

I've tried the point of exhaustion thing, it only works for maybe a day and that's it sleep.gif....

The point is to force yourself to wake up a set amount of time later... do whatever is necessary and then force yourself to stay awake for at least 12 hours before repeating it. It might only work for a day because you let yourself sleep "too much" after.

I stopped believing.

um go to a doctor?

or i suppose you could wake up early and do some heavy excercising .. i'm assuming that your body will be tired and you'll go to sleep? never had insomnia so i'm not sure. i think it might be best to go to a doctor depending on how long it's been.
Some say i'm a genius, others say i'm crazy
but they all say i'm a little on the weird side

i use to have this problem for a couple of days and it was really frurstrating. I forgot how I got back to being able to sleep but I think it has to do with clearing your mind lol if you think too much it will be very hard to sleep. so try and not to think too much when you're in bed. Hopefully this helps ^^

Try reading a book a few minutes before going to bed. I have this problem for 2 days now and I'm getting deep lines aorund my eyes, did you get them too? Argh its even making me even more frusturated

EDIT:Saya did you get rozerem from a doctor or over the counter. I need a pill like that it sounds really good!

Another Edit:I just remembered, I was gonna take Apple cider vinegar with water but my mom told its really warm and I shouldn't, so she boiled carrots for me. She said it got her tired so I tried one and it did get me tired, but I ate it during the day so yeah I couldn't take a nap. So you should try boiling some like an hour or half an hour before going to bed and see if that works^^

apparently drinking a glass of warm milk with about a tablespoon of honey in it will help you fall asleep (:

I got Rozerem as a prescription, I'm not sure if it can be acquired over the counter :/
Boiled carrots or apple cider vinegar?? Hmm if natural things like that worked it would be much better :3 I've drank more glasses of warm milk, taken more hot baths and listen to more soothing music than I can count haha.

hey! we're on the same sleep schedule! but it's summer for me and i do it by choice >_> i think?

just the regular info you get: maintain consistant sleeping schedule, do not do anything except sleeping on your bed, do not eat/exercise 2-3 hours before sleeping, do not take naps, and i think that's it

i have an awful time sleeping too.
i'd give you advice, but i'm constantly googling advice on how to sleep too!
i take ambien... i don't know why my doctor has let me stay on it for so long... i've been on it since November? and it's a short-term drug (no more than 1 month)
i'm not complaining though
it makes me really strange though. the first few times i took it i freaked out and i was hallucinating
what's worse--well, actually there are LOTS of bad things about it-- is that sometimes i act like a total idiot (try dancing around the roommates offering Now&Laters singing, "you can have it now! or you can have it later!") but i black out a lot. so then my roommates are laughing at me and i have no idea what happened. sadddd!

but randomly, sometimes this works. thing of getting out of your bed for something. i always get sleepy... but i think that's because i'm just insufferably lazy =P

I use the flu medicine from my local Walgreens. If you don't wannabe a druggie like me...
Squeeze your neck to restrict blood flow to your brain and knock you out. It's incredibly stupid and works like a charm. wink.gif
