Are you working on becoming a psychologist?

Are you in the BSc stream then? And med school for psychiatry or something else?
I'm a BAH in psyc and i plan to get a PsyD instead of a PhD because I'm more interested in the clinical stuff than research. Ideally, I want to do psychiatry because you can prescribe medication but my math is just too weak...

Whats the difference between getting a final degree of BA or Bsc? Are the future paths different?

I also want to get a PsyD in clinical after graduating with a BA. I think the difference is that one is more science-based than the other, and will look better if you are trying to apply to a PhD program. But it's definitely possible (I Hope!!) because I'm gonna apply to PhD programs anyway. Maybe BS graduates are more into research and science? And BA is more into humanities and liberal arts.

I'm a Psychology major~! I admit, it's tough to find a job with just a B.A. in Psychology (as in many other majors) ... it really depends on what you want to do I guess. As for me, I want to do something in clinical psychology... and that pertains to graduate school. If you're going to do Psych, make sure you know what you wan to do in the long run... as in AFTER you graduate with the B.A. in Psychology. Many students DON'T know what to do because they just brush off thinking about it ... thus, taking Psychology as an advantage.

Me! I'm a psych major but I plan on going to med school =)

Yeah...a bachelor's in psychology is pretty useless. If you want to do something with it (or make money), you have to go onto the grad school and at the very least, get a master's degree (though again, a master's in psychology isn't worth very much either). The real jobs for people who have a psych major and want to continue in psych lies in a Ph.D, whether it's clinical (working with patients) or research-based. And just fyi, a psychologist usually has a Ph.D but can't prescribe medicine (except in certain states), while a psychiatrist has an M.D. degree (they're a real doctor) and CAN prescribe medication.

I'm a psych major but I have no idea what I'm going to do with the degree. I really want to work in advertising or something similar... I'm picking up minors in digital arts and business as well.

You mean psychiatrist? Either way, I haven't really thought about that. I plan on pursuing a more medical-based field (ie. cardiology, dermatology, surgeon, etc.)

A BS is much more science-based and is ideal for those planning on medical school. A BA is very flexible and is ideal for those pursuing clinical psychology (or other areas of psych). With a BS, you take many science courses that really aren't required for graduate school in psychology.

sad.gif i'm debating on whether to pursue a psych BS or BA degree...
i'm considering going into counseling (family/marriage, school?) but i want to get my MA in grad school.
so i don't know if it's worth it to struggle through the BS just to have a better looking degree to get into grad school...
what do you guys think? T^T help!

i think if you're sure you want to do counseling psych, then there's no need for a BSc. many profs will tell you that a BSc and a BA are the same...except for the fact that you take more stats and science courses with the former. you don't lessen your chances to get into grad school just because you have a BA. if you want to keep your options open though and are good at stats/science, go for the BSc.

I'm a psych major and I'm planning on getting a PhD in clinical psychology or counseling psychology. I plan on becoming a practicing psychologist afterwards. I had a really difficult time deciding between a PsyD and a PhD but I'm leaning towards PhD because my school's program is very research focused.
