Sitting Up When You're Asleep

Without my control, my body would automatically pull my upper body and make me sit up on the bed when I'm sleeping.
And it's only as I am pulling myself up that I sort of wake up and notice what I'm doing, but I would always fall back asleep afterward.
This has been happening to me for a few months I think, but it's becoming more frequent lately.
Like I would sit up 2 or 3 times a night now.
Anyone know what this is and why it's happening?

Does it count if I actually notice what I'm doing though?
Cuz I thought sleep walking was when you're doing something without having control of your body or knowing what you're doing.
I actually got up once and walked over to my closet and went back to my bed,
but I fully knew what I was doing..just couldn't control my body.

Now in most cases the brain secretes hormones to paralyse the body (to prevent us acting out our dreams) and sometimes it's possible for a person to experience neither the paralysing hormones nor dream state and begin sleep walking or sleep talking. There's other combinations like sleep walking without knowing, paralysis without dreaming (quite terrifying) and a few others. Something that happens to children is the "Night Terrors" where children will start screaming, kicking and thrashing about, wake up then fall asleep again.
I'm not aware of any "cures" for sleep walking but if it's really a problem I think someone certified in NLP or Hynosis could offer some help. Alternatively you could try eating foods high in amino acids such as turkey, milk, bannanas and cheese.

Ahh, okay. Thanks, that was really helpful.
But the thing is that when it happens multiple times a night, it's at different times.
Ranging from the beginning when I just fall asleep all the way to morning hours..
so it doesn't only happen when I fall asleep and begin dreaming.
lol yeah that'd be pretty freaky..sounds like a horror movie.
I've heard people sleep talk before..and that's already scary enough.

Every night and every 90 to 120 minutes you would have to enter the second stage of sleep, again, before REM sleep, like what Deadalready said.
If you count it up you would be sitting upright at least 4 to 6 times at night all at different times.

cause the first time i got my ears pierced
i slept sitting up cause i thought the
back of the earring was going to poke
through my skin or my earring was going
to get caught in my pillow and rip my ear lol
but i kept waking up like every hour
but when i was little i would always fall out of my bed
cause i would always end up sleeping on the floor when i wake up haha XP

Whenever I sleep later/earlier than what I'm normally accustomed to, I do some weird things when I'm sleeping... like falling off my bed, haha.

That's it, I'm never sharing a bed with you ever again.

You know what, I think YOU'RE the one causing me to do this.
Gaawd, always being such a woman and picking fights, giving me so much stress.

Honestly, I'm not sure why your body is acting like that-- I'm just sharing similar events that happened to someone I know.
