Hi there Soompiers, I'm pretty sure you guys have seen this debate somewhere, but I decided to start this thread because I was inspired by some Youtube videos and the "Harry Potter Vs. Twilight" thread found here: http://www.soompi.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=224727.

Yes yes, I know that this thread is probably making you roll your eyes and thinking "Why do people keep comparing Harry Potter and Twilight?! They're not the same at all! " Yes. I know that and understand and agree with you completely, but this thread is not comparing the two series. Please do not hate on me because I didn't come up with this original idea. Also, I am not technically comparing the two characters of Harry and Edward. I am just passing on the hypothetical situation of Edward and Harry, and who would be victorious (Vampire Vs. Wizard, if you will). I am simply intrigued by fans' responses to this "debate", and isn't it a little fun just to imagine them in battle?

So the question is: If Edward Cullen and Harry Potter were to get into an epic battle who would be victorious? To clarify and level the playing ground, this battle is based solely upon their abilities and NOT by who is hotter who has better character traits in their respected novels. With this Let's consider the facts:

Edward Cullen:


-has super human strength
-super human speed
- keen eyesight
-perfect hearing
-can read people's minds


Harry Potter:


- has a magic wand to place a variety of spells (possibly any spell) on others and for himself.
(sorry for the lack of details for Harry. I've only watched the movies.)

I personally think it'd be a close match, but Edward will win. Why? Edward can read minds so he'd be able to know which spells Harry will cast before he even casts them. Not only that, Edward can quickly dodge any attacks Harry makes and break Harry's wand in an instant.

Let's take into consideration that Harry casts that one spell in the later books that can prevent others from reading his mind. who then, will win?

Please clarify WHY you think Harry would win or Edward would win with a justifiable reason, not because "Edward is hot" or "Harry is cool."

Edward Cullen.
Hands Down.

1) Edward can mind reading therefore can read what Harry is going to do before he acts upon it.
2) Edward has super hearing so even if Harry uses his invisibility cloak Edward can still hear him.
3) Edward has super speed so, even if Harry wanted to take out his wand, Edward would just zip by him and break it like a twig.
4) In order to kill Edward you literally need to burn him/ decapitate him until he is ASH. Harry can easily die because he is a human.

Erm.. I don't understand the question.. Vampire with vicious fangs that can read minds versus boy wizard with a magic wand... I don't know about you, but my money is on the vampire that can read minds and knocks a magic wand off a wizard's hand in a matter of seconds.

I don't get why people keep on comparing Twilight and Harry Potter. Stephenie Meyer vs. J.K Rowling. Twilight vs. Harry Potter. Edward Cullen vs. Harry Potter.

^I'm not exactly comparing, I'm putting both characters in a hypothetical situation. I agree with you 100% that the two book series cannot be compared with each other because of the major differences in plot, theme, etc. and not to mention that these two book series have nothing in common. Also, it's unfair to compare the two authors since their goals and styles in writing are completely different. However, both the male leads in these two series do have ONE thing in common and that is their supernatural abilities. Granted, that's why there is this "debate." It's not about which character is better, it's about who would win in a battle of the powers (although this sounds contradictory, it's not).

Edward, just because his abilities.
He can knock off Harry's wand in like seconds. Then I guess Harry isn't that much powerful anymore.
Edward can't die easily either, while Harry can.

I think that wizards have spells to block them from vampires' powers, like occlumency or legilimency, whatever. (Protego Maxima!)
and they can do AVADA KEDAVRA to..vampires..and they die.

OOOH, and..he weakened, sorta, Voldemort when he was JUST A BABY. no powers, spells, WHATEVER, just a friggin BABY.

But to answer your question.. HARRY POTTER FTW.

All of Edward's powers are possible for Harry experience too. And Mind reading? Harry could learn legilimency and even occlumency for when Edward is trying to invade his thoughts.

Voldemort was able to invade Harry's mind and he couldn't kill Harry.

Edward is a great character but he certainly lacks the emotional depth of Harry and Edward is not complicated at all. (Actually this is one of the reasons I like Jacob better).

Anyway a fight with a vampire and a wizard, hahahaaa my money would be on the wizard (even it is not Harry).

The actor playing Edward is better looking than Daniel Radcliffe but it doesn't make him a better character. It is not all about looks...

My goodness, he defeated Voldemort, he should be able to defeat some "dazzling," pompous vampire who is part of a book series that is truly terrible. He just captures Bella (who is an awful stereotype of women in general), fakes her death, Edward goes emo, and then Harry Potter sets up some mind defense and kills him.
And of course the two books can be compared to one another. One is obviously better than the other - although I would have never thought that compared to another book, I could deem Harry Potter a literary masterpiece.

I think it'd be nice if people could just respect others' interests & works (Stephenie's).
you shouldn't find HP readers bashing on Twilight as much as you shouldn't find the vice versa.
haha, oh well. I like both series tremendously-- I just favor Twilight a little more because I'm absolutely in love with vampires.
but the whole concept of Hogwarts & wizardry still gets me <3

anyway! on to the battle-- sorry for the rambling delay.

I, in all honesty, think that Edward would win.
as much as Harry has spells to attack and defend, he can only use them if he catches SIGHT of Edward (& if Edward stays still enough for the spell to reach him).
Edward can read minds, not that it'd be of any more use to him than his speed.
but I think the worst part is that Edward can kill with his bare hands if need be, Harry is still... stuck with a wand.
yes, it's because Edward's a vampire, but that really wasn't his choice-- it's just smart to take advantage of such a fact. (:
also, Edward could throw large objects at Harry at immense speeds-- Harry's reaction time... might not be as fast. ^^;
