Not sure if I post this in the "Foods" section or this section...

Anywho, I usually go food shopping with my mother and buy foods I know I will never eat, but I do so anyway because I convince myself that I will somehow eat them without wanting to (Did that make sense?). Anywho, my mother has gone with me food shopping and always tells me that she's given up, because all the healthy food is rotting in our refridgerator while I'm stuffing my face with oily/fatty foods.

So does anybody know of any foods that help you lose weight, but is also healthy? I know the obvious choices are foods like vegetables and fruit... but can any of you guys narrow down the results for me?

I'm absolutely certain fruits like bananas and oranges are good. Also, vegetables like carrots and foods like brown rice?
The reason why I'm asking is because I'm on a diet- I don't have a problem at all with exercising- but just the food issue. I always end up getting foods that are inappropriate for breakfast, lunch or dinner and is only good for snacks.

Can anybody help? I'd be extremely grateful! biggrin.gif

Oh, and I'd like it if you'd add food that helps with losing weight, not just healthy in general. Most foods can be healthy, but can be loaded with cholesterol or carbs?

I just saw this today on the Mike & Juliet Show, thought it might help.

5 Foods to Flatten Your Belly

What they didn't include in that article were, olive oil and dark chocolate, which they said had a healthy unsaturated fat that actually helps fight fat, eaten in moderation of course.

Celery supposedly provides negative calories. Meaning that your body exhausts more calories digesting it relative to the calories you gain from eating it. Lol, but one stalk is only like 6 calories so it's not like you're burning 500 calories from just snacking on celery. It's still a good snack though that's pretty nutritious.

I think there are other negative calorie fruits and veggies, but I'm kinda skeptical. Still, it doesn't hurt to eat more fruits and veggies =)

Apparently, cucumbers are good for you, because they're healthy and you don't really gain anything from eating them. (:

cucumbers are really good for you, very low in calories and are supposed to be filling.
people told me that watermelons are good as well because they are really filling when you eat it, and the majority of it is water smile.gif
when eating, try to go for whole grains/wheat in your breads & rice. that'll make a difference as well.

-watermelon, bananas, spinach, zucchini, cucumber, sweet potato, (all help regulate the digestive system and expel toxins)
-berries (antioxidants)
-cereal or whole wheat breads, oatmeal for fibre, nuts for energy
-beans are good for you, add them to congee
-kiwi + grapefruit for Vit C (makes your skin brighter) as opposed to oranges (and cherries) can make you break out or have nosebleeds
-eat eggs, tofu, fish as opposed to meats to lose weight and for protein and if you do eat meats, eating meat + rice or bread or pasta together during a meal can pack on pounds
-contrary to popular belief, salads are not the best way to take in vegetables because it takes longer to digest and break down, boiling vegetables is the best way and it makes veggies shrink so you eat more (my friend ate nothing but vegetable soup for dinner for her diet and lost weight quick)
-eat at regular times even if you're not hungry, breakfast 7-9, lunch 11-1, dinner 5-7 and eat so you're full so you don't snack later on

and remember that balance is key and that we do need some fat and carbs
phew that was a lot, hope it helped! : )

hmm foods that are high in fiber/protein, whole grains,
choose whole wheat over white bread
antioxidants.. like that yogurt stuff

try not to get foods with trans fat...its like the worst thing for your body =[

look for foods in low calories, cause you're supposed to eat 5 small meals a day opposed to 3 big meals a day

Buy foods that aren't over processed and have alot of sugar in them
Some of my favorites that are pretty healthy are
Grape-nuts or any other wholegrain, high fiber cereal, some of the Kashi cereals are really good, also oatmeal-but not the instant kind that has alot fo sugar
unsweetened light soy milk or skim milk
tofu-is really good for protein and if you buy the silken variety you can add it to fruit smoothies, my fav is a frozen banana, some fresh pineapple, some silken tofu, and a little bit of soy milk
Hummus-also has protein, and is pretty low-cal and low-fat is a good spread on sandwhiches
100 percent whole wheat bread-it will fill you up more then white
Avocados-even though have a high fat content its good fat just don't eat much and it adds some good depth to a salad plus is good for the skin
low- fat Yogurt-I prefer the greek, or just buy plain which is cheaper and add a little bit of honey to it,
Muesli home-made- just add 1/2 cup of skim milk, and 1/2 cup of oats, and some cinnamon and let it sit in the refrig overnight and in the morning you got yourself a delicious bowl of muesli and you can add dry fruits or some nuts like almonds which will give you some protein
Hope this helps:)

Konnyaku! It's a gelatin-like food that has very little flavor but it can be added to soups, hot pots, etc. It's made from a yam.

The noodles made from konnyaku, called shirataki (you can find it in any Asian market), only have 5 calories per serving!! And they expand in your stomach so you feel full after eating a small portion.
