so i have this acura legend that's just been sitting around
and i'm thinking about having it fixed up
but i'd like to have some kinda idea to why first

about a year ago i had an engine swap done on my 93 legend
and they guy my parents hired to do the job didn't do such a great job
*now that i can't drive the piece, so i had to get a new car, which i had to return due to issues, whatever*

okay, the car starts, it runs pretty good for a while
then the car stopped flat on me
and the engine check light would come flashing
at first i thought it was the ECU
maybe it wasn't properly shut off and programing messed up
*so i was told*
but when i got my new car, i left the car for about a year and a half
and now i was thinking about getting it fixed up
*but i'd like to know the problem before anything else, just to see if i can have it done on my own
then if not, i can take it to a shop and have it fixed there*

so problem:
car starts, then stalls, then starts up after a few days
then dies again, then works after a few days again, on and on

could it be that when the engine swap was done, wiring was done wrong?

HELP ME CAR TECHS!!!

thanks in advance to any advice, anything helps, even just guesses ^__^

You said the check engine light would flash. Do not drive the car...you probably have a misfire. Get a scanner and hook it up and tell me the code, and I'll help you out from there.

If this is pertaining to your 93 Acura Legend, then unfortuantly there is no regular code reader to read the engine code. The car is part of the OBDI standard, not the current OBDII standard (which can be read with a generic scanner).

One of the requirements of OBDI is that it can be read without any specialized tools. Typically on these cars it involves finding the service connector or box and jumpering one or two of the connectors. So you can have a mechanic or someone who knows older Hondas and Acuras access these codes. Typically it will have a indicator flash a certain number of times and counting the flashes often represents a code.

Sometimes what can trigger the check engine is a loose gas cap all the way to ECU failure.
