If it's someone I'm not familiar with, I go "hello". But if it's someone I'm close with, usually I sneak up behind them, poke a finger into their backs and say, "Don't move. This is a hold-up!" and then they usually look all panicky at this point, to which I say, "just kidding! How are `ya?" I'm so lame :|

I say "hey" to ppl I'm pretty familiar with so I don't have to hear the "hay is for cows" crap. And for strangers I say "hello" sometimes I might say "hi" if it's someone a bit younger than me or the same age.
