I only say Hello if I really want to talk to you.
If not, then Hi. Or I'll just smile. smile.gif

QUOTE (hungrycollegeboy @ Jul 25 2008, 02:23 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
To guys my age:
"Hey"
"Yo"
"What's up"
(all of the above usually followed by a handshake, or a nod of greeting)

To girls my age:
"Hi 'insert name here'"
(usually followed by a wave)

When meeting strangers my age and older:

"Hi, I'm 'insert my name here'" (usually followed by a handshake)
When they initiate by saying the above, I say "Likewise"

To people I know of higher status:
"Hello, professor."
"Hello, sir."
"Good morning/afternoon/evening 'insert status here'"
(These are usually only followed by a smile after the first meeting which is done with a handshake)

I dunno, to me handshakes are really important in terms of greetings. I was brought up that way.

Pretty much what he said, except I don't say "yo"

It just doesn't fit me.
I don't know about you, but I'm not living off a 40-40 for my life.

With friends it's usually:

What's Up? , Hey , Yo , Their Name , or the Head Tilt

Stangers:

Hi, Hello.

Older/Elders/Teacher

Hello Sir/Mam.

Good Morning, Good Evening, etc.

"Hi!" or "Hey!" in a cheerful way.
To older people, "Hi, good evening/afternoon/morning" with a more timid smile.

If its to my home boys I would be like Aiyo Whats Good, B.
then i'll do our handshake or just a regular handshake into a little shoulder bump.

For girls i usually yell out "hey!!" and then ill get a hug [=
but if they're too far away or walking opposite of me down the hall ill just smile.

For like other people ill just say "whats up?"
and smile. biggrin.gif tongue.gif

I usually start off with a "Hi!' How are you!"

That's the standard...for everybody. LOL.

"hey ___!"

or when i don't give a hoot
"what's up __?"
only because i realized if i cared it'd sound really awkward, so "what's up?" pops up every now and then.

"hi/hello _bigger authority_"

and with elder asians and i only do this with elder asians i don't know but am forced to introduced myself too,
i bow and "vietnamese greet"

it's a slight bow. but i find myslef the only doing it when all my other cousins just stand there and "vietnamese greeting."

To acquaintances I like
I will look at him/her and if he/she looks my way, I will smile

To acquaintances I don't like
I will rummage my bag for nothing, or pretend that I am texting, or just look straight ahead as if I did not see him/her

To friends
"Oi!" then smile and wave

To elders
"Hello po." or "Good morning/afternoon/evening po."
(po is a word in our country that is used when you talk in a polite manner)
or, same as To acquaintances I don't like

If it's a really close frind then i wave and say "HEY!" or "ANNYONG!"...
But if it's someone i don't know that well, i wave or whisper "Hi"..
