Straightening you hair might slow down the growth, as it does damage your hair. So, I think your friend might be right.

Let's hope not. I straighten it everyday, and am waiting for it to grow longer T_T

I've heard that getting cuts = faster growth, cuz the split ends and such are cut away = non damaged hair. So maybe? Iunno either sad.gif

Do you use a heat styling protecting spray/cream? If not, you should start.

straightening your hair just damages your hair. thats all, it doesnt have anything to do with your roots and how fast it grows. its becasue you keep wanting your hair to grow and you kep looking at it and stuff. just try a month with out taking to much notice about your hair and you'll see that it does grow.

About two months ago I cut my hair to about an inch and a half below my shoulders and I straighten my hair five times a week. After those two month my hair has grown about three inches o _ O

It shouldn't slow down the process because your hair grows from your roots and the heat from your straightener shouldn't be damaging the roots because they're under your scalp XD But~ it will be damaging the shafts of your hair so don't forget to use heat protecting serums or sprays!

As what everyone else said, straightening your hair shouldn't slow down hair growth. Hair is only alive at the roots, which is where it grows. The hair you are straightening is dead hair. Diet is most likely causing your hair to grow slower. I guess you are not getting enough nutrients for fast hair growth?

If you're straightening too much then your hair will snap off and/or have split ends. So even if your hair grows you'll just keep snapping off the ends which = short/same length.

Have regular trims, use a heat protecting spray, and generally look after your health.

i dont think so.. my hair grew at the same rate when i use to straighten my hair a lot and when i dont. i stopped cause the flat iron is soo damaging.. it gave me so many frizzy hairs. i use to have super straight and smooth hair until i got a layered cut. that turned my hair a lil wavy and so i just kept straightening it and now its all damaged =( so try not to straighten it too much and use deep conditioners!

its not all about straightening your hair; but it can have a factor.
it can damage your hair but iuno about the growth.

just that, for some people their hair grows slow.
but i think you can eat certain foods for faster hair growth <3

i don't think straightening your hair really matters. it'll probably just dry your hair out but it won't make it grow slower since your hair grows from your roots.

I'm a qualified hairdresser and I can tell you that straightening your hair does not slow down hair growth! However, if you use the wrong hair straightener (cheap ones that burn your hair), obviously it damages your hair, causing split ends and causing the ends of the hair to snap off thus giving you the impression that your hair is not growing any longer at all! I highly recommend using the GHD hair straightener, although it is quite pricey, it is well worth it. It does not burn your hair at all! I've done the 'tissue test' on the GHD, which involved me placing a piece of tissue between the GHD plates for 10 minutes and it did not burn at all! It just got hot, and straight!

If you can't afford a GHD, then I suggest a straightener with ceramic plates, NOT ceramic COATED plates, and ionic compounds. Invest in good quality shampoo and conditioners such as Redken and give yourself a hair treatment once or twice a week.

If you use those heat protective sprays/shampoos/and whatever, it shouldn't.
From what I've heard, it only damages your hair, but from all the burning, it might slow it down.
