I'm totally self conscious about my calves. They bulge out.. even though I'm really skinny and it's definitely not all muscle. I think they look ridiculous because my legs are so thin otherwise ><. My dad has the same bulge-y calves. Is there any way to slim them down?

Do a lot of endurance long distance exercises rather than short distance sprints or what not. Like walking a real long distance, not sprinting. Don't do exercises like going up stairs. Quick running like that makes your calf muscles grow horizontally while long endurance exercises grow your muscles out vertically so it makes you leaner. You can also stretch a lot. Do yoga everyday!
I like to break the rules.

I have big calves too, but thin thighs so my legs look like 2 rectangles. =.=;;
I think it's hereditary, since my dad also has pretty big calves. It's fine if you want to do sprinting exercises or join a certain sports team, I think it'll actually tone your calves a little. In my case my calves are two big chunks of muscle and it's really manly looking. >.< I didn't really see a difference in their sizes even after I joined the cross country team and track & field, so don't worry about your calves getting bigger.

what do u mean by bulge out? u mean like how they curve slightly like the pic on the left, instead of straight down like the pic on the right?

yea stretching your calves makes them seem longer and leaner and same with long distance running. while you're gaining muscle you can tone your muscles by buying one of those hard foam cylinders that you can get in fitness stores and just roll your butt, front of thighs, inside of thighs, and calves on it, so basically 'stretching, toning, and sculpting'
good luck!

Instead of doing some short distance running, do some long distance running. Stretching helps too! It'll help a lot. (:

what is long distance running considered? A mile on the treadmill+walking perhaps, half a mile or a mile?

Long distance running is when you run with a steady pace. I don't think it has to be an exact distance.
Short distance running is when you push yourself to a pace beyond your regular pace, aka sprinting.

I think that after running, you should stretch again to make everything look leaner.

stretch.
it helped mine. lol.
just stretch your legs a lot, especially the calf area.
then you wont gain so much muscle, which may cause the bulge and instead help to elongate it
I am loved ♥

Le *sigh* what i'd do for some big bulgy out calves, i've always maintained a high level of excercise, I hackey sack it, run/walk everywhere and also play footbal (soccer) regularly but have always been teased or known as the one with the skinniest legs by the rest of the dudes on my team. No matter what i try they just never seem to get any bigger.

I think you should just be proud of them!
My legs are just two toothpicks basically. Like there's not really any curves to them.
I call them.. Chicken legs. =-= LOL

So I say, work what yo mama gave ya! Or in this case, your dad. wink.gif

and i have muscle too. so people can tell that i work out.... which isnt really a good thing when your calves are beasts

but walking like 45 minutes a day and stretching helps alot too.

i got big calves from my dad too blehh. it's weird because they weren't like that when i was little, i had really nice legs HMPHH dry.gif

what you want to do is try to tone them and stretch so the muscle is long and lean. dont run; from personal experience it'll only make them bigger. try walking or power walking instead and STRETCH LOTS AND LOTS!
