After months of convincing my mom to let me get a M1 license, she gave in. She said I'm too young (I just turned 19) to drive a motorcycle and I would just show off and get into an accident. Yea I spent months of convincing her that I will be a responsible driver.

Anyway I'm looking to buy a bike right away. What is a good motorcycle for me? I don't want anything too fast that it overwhelms me or anything too slow either. I'm 5'8 and 140 pounds, so I don't want anything too big either. Otherwise if I fall and I'm certain that I will fall, I want to be able to pick the bike up.

I'm looking at:

Ninja 250R

Ninja 500R

GS500F

Kantana 600

I'm open to any other recommendations .

look into a ninja 650r while you're at it. Read the reviews, good beginner's bike in the 600cc class.

But if I were u, I would start out with the 250.

I wouldn't start with a sport bike. I rather suggest you lok into a cruiser. How about the Suzuki GZ250, Honda Rebel (CMX250), or if you want the rumble and looks of a harley the Yamaha V-Star 250. Believe me when i say riding a crotch rocket for over an hour takes a beating on your lower back! As a beginner, if you haven't already, i suggest you look into taking the MSF basic rider course. Motorcycles do not lose thier value as quickly as cars do, buy a used cruiser and once you've learned how to ride efficiently, trade up to a sport bike. Would you really want to spend $4K+ on a new bike that you'll probably drop once or twice?

oh man, i have been thinking about getting my license for the longest time, but some people disagree with it COUGH babe COUGH! congrats on getting your license. I checked it out and the 500 is a good bike for a beginner, good luck on your decision.

also the g can already run mid 13s stock and the hks intakes adds an estimated 10 extra hp and the exhausts add like 8 so yeah it should shove off about 1.5 to 2 sec off my times

If you're on a sportbike, definitely don't get a 600cc unless if you are calling for death

Um, I know nothing much about motocycles but my brother (he's about the same stats as you, too) recently bought his very first bike and it was the Ninja 250R.
I think. I know it was a Ninja tho. sweatingbullets.gif

well i would recommend the ninja 250 just cause for a beginner it should be enough for you.

but if your daring. pick up a cbr600 that will be plenty for you and it handels nice.
not to get you scared but any motorcycle on the streets will be dangerous not matter what. please be careful, wear the right gear and be extra careful for those stupid drivers

250r...70~80mpg and with the new good looks the 08 250r comes with. That would definitely be my choice.

250R. It sucks at keeping up with 600cc's off the line, but oh man is it fun and flickable at corners. And it's way easier for low speed maneuvers and ideal for daily commute. I can see myself being happy with it for a while. Plus it's significantly cheaper to insure a 250cc bike. And at 333 lbs. it will be the easiest to stand back up if you let it down.
