Oh my Dianna. You are sooo in love with that place. LOL! If you don't go to college in Florida, I'll be surprised.

and i want to apply to all UCs.

umm i signed up for common app. but when i try and add colleges to my college list it says they cannot find it
i mean
for UCI i typed in University of California Irvine, UCI, University of California: Irvine, and also just the name of the city that the school is in and nothing popped up.

The UC system isn't on common app, you have to go on the UC site for their unique application.

I still havent started anything yet for college. I just missed the deadline for ACTS and I doubt my parents would want to pay the late reg fee. Just kinda more panicing going on for me atm.

Have you guys taken your senior portraits yet?

I have to start on my apps soon. I'll probably apply to most schools around the Boston area. Including MIT!
Just for giggles.

I skipped my Senior portraits. They were in June. For some reason, they were scheduled the day before my finals started.

witsups?

Nope. We were supposed to get a mail on the Senior Portrait dates, but I never got one. mellow.gif
Did you take your senior portrait yet?

To-do list:
- Signup for UC's application system
- Signup for UOP's application system
- Register for Common Application if necessary
- Compile a list of 10~12 colleges I want to go to
- Figure out how GPA and all that stuff goes
- Plan the Essays + Write rough drafts

Does anyone know how colleges look at our GPA? Do they look at freshmen/sophomore/junior grades accumulatively? Weighted or un-weighted?

UC's have something called a CAP GPA, which is basically your weighted GPA, I think.
Try looking it up on google? hahah ^^;;

and UOP takes your unweighted; on its website, it says "the minimum GPA required is _____ (4.0 scale)"

hey class of 2010! (heh, my first post here...) senior year is coming!

From what I've heard, freshman grades aren't as important as the ones from soph/junior year.

would community service (or lack thereof XP) really matter when applying for UCs? or more prestigious universities/ colleges? I'd like to apply for Caltech, it's great for engineering.

Ahh thank you! laugh.gif

So colleges take the GPA from all 3~4 years of highschool?

Prestigious universities/colleges want students that are "well-rounded". So I'm pretty sure community service looks nice on your application. Leadership, extracurriculars, gpa, sat I and sat II scores or act, and of course, your college essays! It's so competitive. For UC's, we had a budget cut(?) so they're accepting less freshmens..or so I've heard. T.T

yeah, it's going to be tougher this year to get in a college. with all the budget cuts (in california, that is) there will be fewer grants available to fund for prospective graduates, and I've read too that UCs are cutting back on their freshman class. I'm crossing my fingers for faster change... not that that will help. An idea is to apply to a community college, and then transfer.

And it's a tad late for applying for service clubs. ohmy.gif

uhmmm, i don't think they really care about freshman year.

They allow up to 8 semesters of AP and qualified honors courses to add "weight" onto your GPA.
but yeah, don't take my word on that again.
my memory sometimes fails epic-ly.

yeah effing california's education sucks balls. we're like ranked 48th out of 50 states in education.
oh sorry, i just checked, and we're ranked 49th now. LOVELY. -____-"
& yeah, UCs are accepting less freshmen applicants.

Ahh thank you ! Up til this moment, I always thought they mainly looked at our weighted grades T.T
I better get my transcript printed and calculate my unweighted GPA this week..

It's easier to just go to a community college for two years and get rid of your general ed crap and transfer to a U.C. it's cheaper too

Ugh yeah I live in Cali and even though I'm applying to all the UCs (well, most) I have absolutely no confident in getting in them ._. I'm applying to a bunch of out-of-state schools.

I've heard about this, and I believe there was even a thread dedicated to it, but I'm just wondering, since it's so much easier that way....why don't more people opt for this route? Is it just to save face since community colleges are stereotypically characterized as a slacker haven?

Let's commit the perfect crime. I'll steal your heart. You steal mine.

^Hmm. I heard that an increasingly amount of students take that route, so..

As for myself - I'd rather leave that route as my last resort. Not because I want to save 'face', but I don't want to miss out on the freshman/college experience. I took classes at a community college and I felt like it was the same as highschool. The quality of education is different too ;x

With all the budget cuts, I'm getting more worried than ever. For me, the whole go to the community college then transfer is my last resort too. I'm hoping I'll get into one good UC. School is starting in a week for me and right now I'm still stressing out about this whole college thing. I seriously don't want to do it yet. x:

I'm taking my portraits this Friday. I'm just taking the yearbook ones and I'm going to have a very simple look as opposed to the heavy makeup and dolled up hair other girls usually have. |:

General question. Would it be beneficial to not apply to a school you're not confident you can get into (for strickly GPA reasons) and try to transfer in latter? Or would the initial rejection have no affect on them letting you transfer in?
Sorry if that wasn't entirely clear

^^ I don't think it matters, as you as you can prove to them later on that you're up to their standards.
