Hi, I've been practicing for over 6 months now in nyc and it has changed my life inside out and my body to the bones. My body's shape has completely changed as well! My energy level is always up and my mental state so clear. It also has helped me with my awareness of my breathing at all times, every movement I make, I have become so much more mindful and tranquil. Does anyone else practice this and how has it helped you?

with practices like bikram yoga or any type of exercise, i think you really can't go by someone else's review. some people love it, some people prefer something else? also for me, i didn't truly "get it" until after my 3 month practice going 5-6 times a week. anyone else saying "oh i can do this really well like after 2 weeks or even a month" hasn't even really "gotten" it either. it takes a loooooooooong time for your body to even begin to really understand and inherently grasp the postures. if you're near one and interested, you should really try for yourself with their unlimited weekly pass that's either $23-$25 depending on where you live.

as for your cousin....i'm not sure but i know if you have any kind of injury and can't do a posture, there's a variation of it. you should call the studio nearest you and find out smile.gif

www.bikramyoga.com is the main site that has all the listing of the studios worldwide. bikram choudhury (the founder) lives there and has tons of studio in cali!
http://www.bikramyogaofcalifornia.com/ is the bikram yoga california site.
i've posted this previously about the $23-25 week pass for all the studios.

also, you can straight out google bikram yoga and you'll find TONS of info. some sites will have mixed review but again, this is something you have to try for yourself smile.gif

oh and if i can add one important note here....the heat factor will take some time to get used to. it's REEEEEALLY intense it's a 90 min. practice and you'll probably die BUT if you do this consistently for 2 weeks, you'll appreciate the heat and 4 weeks, you'll appreciate the practice. and i think only then it would be fair to say whether you liked it or not. some peeps go like twice and write a review but like that just makes no sense. this isn't like working out at a gym, like a step class, it's a practice that works even on a cellular level, so it's not something you can really feel the benefits right away, it builds up if that makes sense smile.gif

i feeel the exact same way, i've been doing it for a year now, starting ashtanga level 1 (i know very slow progression!) but i feel my whole body just toning up and it feels great sweating it all off along with all your stress and problems!

i also go to the gym too on days where i'm not doing yoga. but Bikram is amazing it helped me alot and helped me lose weight too smile.gif

i've brought a few friends along with me, some didn't enjoy the heat and some LOVED it and we go together now but they have also noticed changes~ good changes and a better tolerance for many things.

I tried it out for a week.. first couple times I thought it was pretty fun, but it got boring real quick. So unfortunately, because I only did it for a week I saw no improvements.

I found the moves too easy and I didn't like the fact that it was the same thing everyday.

too easy in a week? there is NO way you're doing the postures right and yes, one week is def. not enough to "get" this thing but again, to each his/her own. it just wasn't your thing smile.gif

Well the instructors didn't correct me? So i'm assuming it was correct?

I've been doing hatha, power and kundalini yoga before.

I've been doing it for the past 6-7 years, I got into it because my cousin was an instructor when I spent time down in SF. When I started I did not expect the environment to be the way it was, felt like dying.

6-7 years???? wow, you can be an instructor and then some if you wanted to! you must be sooo good smile.gif do you do advanced levels of the postures too like esak garcia? just curious, does practicing this help you maintain your weight all througout 6-7 years? see, i run 3 miles at least when i'm not b yoga-ing but when i get older and running becomes too much for my body, i want to be able to just do b yoga - i'm in this forever after seeing so many 50-60 year olds doing this and having no arthritis and looking 5-10 yrs younger with beautiful skin. from your experience, do you think this is enough to maintain your weight (assuming i'll have a healthy diet). thanks~
