Hi everyone. Now that we are paying $4+/gallon of gasoline in the US, I think NASCAR, Indy Car Series, and all the other racing sports are ridiculous and, dare I say, stupid. How much fuel are these cars burning? I don't claim to know much about these motorsports at all, but just the thought of these cars traveling hundreds of miles at almost 200 MPH a couple of times a month makes me shudder.
thoughts?

Well Indy Cars run on Alcohol if I remember correctly. I for one think its horrible that they are wasting all these fuel but at the same time, with all the money they generate, they help the car world develop technology to improve our modern day cars. Where do you think most of the new inventions for cars come from? Traction Control, Cruise Control, ESP, etc etc.

Really? I always had the misconceived notion that it was in NASCAR. But not the cars, the redneck drivers.

Nascar uses unleaded petrol now.

Indy cars run on Ethanol E85 I think. It's for the whole green thing. I can't stand NASCAR since it's all left turns (except when an accident happens), I'm more for Formula One since it's a showcase of cars on a global scale. However, D1GP is my personal favorite...
Fuel is on the up and up, but motorsport enthusiasts will keep things going, even if it means radically changing fuels. Motorsport is a constantly changing sport, and if you look back to the start of racing nearly 100 years ago, things really have changed.

Formula does not really represent that much of a global scale, more eurasia. Motorsports change our life as well from being the main testers in pre production technology for production cars.
