set something reasonable. start with 20 min, and each week add on another 5 minutes (or whenever you feel comfortable). or maybe when you can run 20 min.....or 30min or whatever you want, comfortably then you could try working on speed.
when i started running i was an angry kid, so i would run for longer distances to get out my frustrations. as i began running more and more i changed my running routines. one week i would focus on speed and sprinting. while others i would do an adventure run. now, my body is so used to running, i need it you know?? i go a few days without running and i start feeling really bad (i get the runners high) so now i run because it makes me happy, and it gives me a chance to clear my mind and have some peace in my day. of course i do it to stay healthy as well. i usually go for an hour.....the distance i cover can vary depending on how i feel that day (how fast/slow i run)....weekends i let go and usually go for 2 hours sometimes 3hrs
the point is, start with simple goals. when i started i could barely last for 20 min, so i kept running until i could go for 20 min....when i could do that i set a goal for a longer time, and eventually started working on speed. oh, you could try taking a friend a long every once in a while....or someone else. also, if you know a person who is a runner, ask if you can run with them every once in a while, that will help your running ability as well
