Your questions are a bit vague..
1. Can the laptops replace the desktop? That depends what you're going to use it for. I've been using laptops for pretty much all my life but I don't do anything intense so it didn't matter.
2. Macbook Pro has lasted about 2 years and it's still in top condition.
3. Just.. don't throw it around or anyting idk. Take good care of it

1. Can it replace your desktop?
What do you usually do on your desktop? if you do basic web surfing/office/emails.. then yes..
if you do audio/video/graphics intensive things.. the not so much
2. How long has your Macbook/Pro, iBooks, or Powerbooks lasted you up til now?
they can last pretty long.. as long as you take good care of it... i have some friends that have a powerbook from way back.

1. If you hardcore game, then Macs aren't for you. The Macbook is actually used widely for design classes in Uni so it pretty much DOES handle graphics, videos, audio, etc. If you're doing professional business along the lines of that, get a Mac.
2. Macbooks actually last quite awhile. My cousin had his for years now and it's still in good shape.
3. It's just the basics. Don't throw it around, don't let it overhead, don't drop it or anything.

I am planning to get a macbook pro for college so I can't really tell you anything from personal experience.
but the laptop should be able to last for 4 years if you handle it with care =D

1. yea. it replaced mine, well the ONLY thing it didnt replace is a stational port area for my pritner, scanner, fax, and my internet router...
other than that i use my macbook all day. x]
2. its lasted me a good year and 2months. and still going
3. take good care of it, got it a protective cover, dont drop it, dont handle it roughly... and cleaned it and not get any viruses when i use windows =X
it'll last a LONG time, before my old laptop was a compaq which lasted me 4years, the reason it broke was because the charging port needle broke off...and well replacing it means replacing the motherboard...which costs alot
the reason why a macbook is superior is that the port is a magnet, meaning there is no needle to break...ALOT of laptops i see break/throw away because of the charging ports=o

1. Yes any laptop today can do that unless you need high end graphics.
2. Erm, almost a year.
3. Don't drop it.
