QUOTE
In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story. Mirror’s Edge™ delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous. Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city, you will learn how to run.

I'm most excited for the movement and gameplay of it all.

+__A first-person game, but not a first-person shooter. You can snatch weapons from enemies and use them if you like, but it's possible to beat the entire game without firing a bullet.
+__Inspired by Parkour (an urban running "sport" in which the object is to tackle obstacles in the most fluid motions possible, without wasting time going around them) and, more essentially, free-running (basically Parkour but with more martial-arts inspired tricks, flips, and movements)
+__With the above being said, the gameplay is very free of movement
+__Arms and legs are visible, so the camera view looks much more realistic
+__Momentum is key -- unlike most games where a jump is simply a jump with a pretty much set distance, in Mirror's Edge you can come short if you fail to keep up your momentum, which is done by keeping movements as fluid and quick as possible

I couldn't find a topic for this yet. Sorry if it already exists.

Hopefully the combat isn't some sort of gimmick or huge reason why the game blows because I'm looking forward to it.

The gameplay is certainly interesting and somewhat revolutionary in a sense. If this is a success, future games will definitely follow through with this kind of gameplay in first person to third person and beyond.

But I'm hoping it doesn't end up being like Assassin's Creed. Lots of hype and kick arse trailers but when you actually play the game ... I thought it was pretty overrated. dry.gif The environment (the use of it) was impressive but how the people within the environment reacted to you was pretty cheap and fake. mellow.gif

And I'm also hoping it has a solid storyline. Maybe it could be have GTA and AC formulas combined. Idk.

Assassin's Creed definitely sucked intensely. So much potential gone completely to waste. (You know it's sad when the highlight of your play time involves the one instance in the first five minutes when you honestly mean to gently push a civilian out of your way but accidentally end up ghosting them... and then the fun dies down after that.)

I really hope Mirror's Edge is different, I can't tell if I want to preorder it anymore, or just wait to rent it first or what.

I've been stalking this game for a while now. Looks very innovative. If this goes well, it's might set a new standard and maybe even start a new trend in first-person gaming.

Meh. I really have my doubts on this one.

One of the things I hate the most in a FPS is platforming.

And now we have an entire FPS platformer.
