So August 3rd up here in Ontario, Canada is a civic holiday.

I don't think the entire time I was a student that I really much cared about holidays except maybe Canada Day or May 2-4 weekend .. you know, those party weekends.

Now that I'm working though... a holiday weekend is like sheer GOLD. I get giddy just thinking about upcoming weekends and almost want to plan weeks in advance to ensure that I have something good (or boredline awesome) to do so that I don't waste that extra long weekend.

What do you guys think?

Students.. do you even really pay attention to holidays?
Workers... do you put holidays on a golden pedestal of worship?

holidays are nice off days to just relax for me
the real fun days are the last minute weekend trips that happen regardless of work
or planned vacations that extend more than several days

Amen that. Did a completely random road trip to Miami last year that was pretty cool.. buddy called me up on Thurs and was like "pack up, we're going to Miami tomorrow" so we went for a week.

(Nevermind how brutal it was to drive down 6 people packed into a van with no AC... i-95 all the way down for 26 hours T_T)

My work schedule is 9/80 (80 hours over 9 days), so I get a three day weekend every other week. I'm sure if I ever switch jobs that go back to the typical 40 hour work weeks, I'm gonna be bummed.

I work 10-11 hrs. a day, Mon. thru Thurs. Fridays are optional, but I do go in 80% of the time. I live for long weekends, but I don't like doing the usual things everyone else does. If I went on a clubbing binge last weekend, I want something different this weekend. The only thing consistently usual about my weekend is I've got to fit poker into one of those days. Not much of a road tripper since everything I need and want is no more then 30 minutes away.

a 3-day weekend is a beautiful thing to the working person. honestly it feels to me like Saturday and Sunday alone are not enough. By the time I get rested from the stressful week and I'm ready to have fun it's like it's already time to go back to work lol

Yes and yes, I put 3 day weekends on a golden pedestal decorated with flowers and offerings. It allows me those rare moments to do something I don't get to do often enough, like fishing or throwing a nice BBQ not having to worry about hangovers or the like.

I'm a full time student, and a part time worker *international student* so i work trying to pay for a few bills and just extra money for myself..but ya when you're a full time student I still love the long weekends..just because I get time to rest a bit before studying my butt off again..I take full load and full units in uni so yaa...those holidays are AWESOME and if you have to catch up on studying it's a good time too..=D

but I'm sure for you work people it's like DOUBLY GOOD.......>.>

i don't get weekends off unless requested upon, or only if my boss is feeling extra friendly and gives it to me off for the heck of it, but i don't work as much as i use to so i won't complain about working weekends. As for holidays off I get paid what i make plus another half of that on top of it
I'm a dudeee

Sure do. I, like other workers look forward to our long weekends. The gf and I usually get away for the weekend, and sometimes I take an extra day off, to turn it in to a 4 or 5 day long weekend. smile.gif

Your right. Long weekends didn't mean as much to me when I was a student. Now that I am working full time, public holidays + weekend = win. I make sure I mark the public holidays on my calender now tongue.gif

Long weekends are amazing. It is seriously the cherry of my life. Hahaha.
The only bummer for me is that the time is too short to go back to my hometown.
I usually plan day trips with my friends.

You wish.
