I'm moving from Hawaii to California for college.
Specifically, my school is in the Bay Area, Belmont. (NDNU)
And I have no idea what its gonna be like!
I'm half freaking out, half excited... Lol.
And yesss, I'm full of questions.

What is the weather like in Belmont (or Bay Area in general)?

- Will I need heavy coats for the winter?

What are the nearest convenience stores?
- Like.. Target or Wal-Mart?

Since I'm dorming, I need things like a printer, a mini-fridge, a mini-microwave, and a laundry basket.
Should I buy it here in Hawaii and ship it to my school?
Or should I just buy it up there?

What are nearby shopping malls?

How do you get to Downtown San Francisco from NDNU/Belmont?

And if any of you actually attend/have attended NDNU, I'd love to hear your thoughts about it. ^^

Heh, granted, I'll learn along the way, but it helps to be prepared, right?
And thanks in advance for anyone who answers (:

You'll definitely need coats for the winter. It can get very, very cold!!

what you talking about Gerrronimo you live all the way in Irvine lol.

Okay it can get somewhat cold, ya sure bring a jacket but you dont need to bring like 20 layers of jackets lol. But you only need it for like December-Feb. Any other time of the year its nice and warm, like 70 - 80 degrees, and that random day where it like 90+ lol.

And yes you have all those target, walmart etc around you just like any other place...Get to San Fransisco, just take the train, since you're so close should only take like 20-30minutes on train. Better then bein stuck in traffic if you going in the afternoon haha.

Never been to NDNU or w/e XD I only been up there like once, but I only live about 30minutes away, Major malls? Dunno of any near there but take the train south to Stanford mall is it called? HUge mall and its like 10min train ride away, takes u right to Downtown Palo Alto area with lots of things to do, and Stanford also nearby...

um yea, oh and if you have a chance Definitely goto the AT&T Mobile store in Bruno, it is the COOLEST cellphone store I have ever been in, they have the Microsoft Surface table and stuff, quite a cool experience if you ever need a cell phone ^^

I'm actually from/born in/raised in the Bay Area; I only go to college in Irvine.

I'm home right now! (Of course, it's been hot, since it's summertime.)

Also, when are you moving here? Because it can stay pretty hot a month or two into the school year, and get very hot again at the end of it.

I'm moving there on August 18.
Coming home to HI in mid-December.
Returning back to CA in mid-January.
Then coming home to HI late-May.

It will probably be hot when you get here, cold by the time you leave, still freezing when you get back, and then stay chilly and maybe warm up by the time you leave. It will definitely be rainy for a substantial part of the time. Also, beware--our weather is kind of crazy in that it can be cold as ice in the morning, and then blazing hot in the afternoon, and then freezing at night. Keeps you on your toes!

What is the weather like in Belmont (or Bay Area in general)?
- Will I need heavy coats for the winter? well dont exactly need super heavy coats just warm enough for optional layering. it doesnt really get suuuuuuuper cold here.

What are the nearest convenience stores?
- probably any big name store you could think of

Since I'm dorming, I need things like a printer, a mini-fridge, a mini-microwave, and a laundry basket.
Should I buy it here in Hawaii and ship it to my school?
Or should I just buy it up there? since ur coming from hawaii i recommend you just buy that stuff here and save on shipping

What are nearby shopping malls? since the bay area is the way it is, there are no shortages of malls but since im not familiar with belmont i'll leave it to someone else to answer.

i actually went to the high school right by ndnu. its called notre dame high school
i think you would absolutely LOVE it at belmont. it's a small city, but the cities next to it have a lot of recreational things to do. if you go towards san mateo, theres a huge mall called hillsdale mall. they have everything there. in san mateo downtown, theres a huge variety of asian restaurants and century theatre. the food is great there.

it's not really COLD COLD, like winter. it doesnt snow here. the only problem is wind. you might want to layer your clothing because its cold in the morning and late mornings and it gradually gets warmer around 12 pm.

i would recommend shipping it to your school OR you can get a ride to the nearest target or store to buy stuff. its pretty convenient.
ndnu is about a 10 min walk from the train station. the train goes all the way to san francisco.

nearest store: costco ....15 min drive
walgreens, blockbuster, etc. 5 min drive

i hope i helped.

oOOO yay..NDNU...lol i applied there...but mother said no it was too expensive...

Belmont isnt bad...its pretty much 70's all year round...u might get the 60's occasionally...however at night its def in the 50's...unless we have one of those weird heat waves...

We have back to school deals here too...dont spend extra money on shipping stuff...you can always get things here....

The closest real mall would probably be Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo...

Theres a train called the caltrain which stops at belmont. That will take you to the mall i listed above. Also that will bring you all the way to the ballpark...from the ballpark you can catch the N train to get to downtown...If you take N all the way down, you can get to the beach...

Or you can take caltrain to millbrae station...transfer on the bart and get off on powell and your there.

if you have any other questions you can message me...

- I think that it is better, with less hassle, and less money to just by it up here (cali).

Have fun when you are down here in Cali.
