Hi, i really need some advices. Please help me.
Here's my story........
About 2-3 weeks ago, I spilled my Mountain Dew in my purse and my ipod got wet. At the moment, i wasnt really worried, because i thought my ipod would be ok, so i didnt pay attention, but after i got home, my ipod wasnt turning on. I tried everything( i even went to the apple store), but nothing worked. tears.gif

so...after about 2 days, i just thought i would soak it in water again, so all the sugar and the sticky stuff would come out.....and it worked sweatingbullets.gif

after i washed my ipod with water blush.gif i blow-dried it for few minutes, until my ipod was really hoooot....and i put it in a bowl of rice for 2 days....after that.....i charged it...and it started to work perfectly fine ( at the moment)

HOWEVER>...... unsure.gif the battery is dying sooooo quickly.....i have to charge for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooong time......and after i play it....the battery dies after few minutes...like 5-10 min.....
is there any way to save it???????? sad.gif
or change the battery maybe?

umm.. any kind of liquid on electronics devices are no good.......

i'm not understanding why you would put it in a bowl of rice....

replacing batteries on apple devices are a pain in the butt. if the apple store cant do anything about it.. i would just buy a new one..

Take it to the genius bar and don't tell them anything about what you did -- just tell them it did that on its own. Maybe they'll be able to fix it for you, or even give you a new one.

I thought he was being sarcastic when he said that crazy.gif
I doubt it would work though because wouldnt the device start corroding after some time?

I would just buy a new one and look after it better.

How old is your ipod, because you can just take it to the apple store, not the same one you took it to before and be like "Um my battery is dieing really fast, i thought it was supposed to be able to last for 22 hours mines only goes on for about 5 minutes." Now this really depends on how long youve had this ipod because if its like a couple of months this plan is gonna work *dont ask* but if it is like 2 or 3 years old there probably just gonna be like "well maybe since youve had this for so long you messed something up yourself"

You did the right thing with what happened. By washing it with water after the mountain dew (I hope you didn't try to turn it on after you did spill the mountain dew and wash it with water until it's completely dry, but since it still works it's probably still fixable)

Spilling any liquid is bad on electronics, however if it's not turned on then you could probably save it (if the liquid isn't corrosive).

For everyone who spills something on their electronics:

If its water then you'll probably be ok (Just don't turn it on until it is completely dry - stick it in the middle of rice but make sure the rice doesn't get into it or use silica packs, you know those things that are put inside shoe boxes). After a few days try to turn it on again when it's absolutely dry.

They actually use water to clean computer chips in factories before they ship out so don't worry if its plain freshwater, dunno about salt water though, but try washing out with freshwater.

=====

I suggest that you probably should change the battery on your iPod. However if you're still under warranty try to bring it in and say your battery is dying for no reason. However, I don't know if iPods have internal wet indicators like they do on cell phones which are clear signs that you got it wet so you can't try using the warranty to make up for your mistake.

If you bring it up to the apple store they are gonna ask you how it broke and even if you dont say water they still check for it, but if the ipod is completely dry it is most likely they wont find any water, she went to the back and checked the headphone jack and checked the litmus paper there, but i got around that by using a cotten swab and some rubbing alcohol to reset that, and she came back with a new one when she was done. Now if they do find water then it really is over because the warranty that apple supplies doesnt cover water.

You could PM me if you have any problems or if you would like more help i would be happy to help.

OMG I washed mine cuz it was in my pocket and it hasn't worked since!
Mine just flashes up when you click but it's just a blank screen! (Which I can see a little water in!)
When I hook it up to the comp it doesn't work either tears.gif

What kind of ipod do you have? And how old is it?

Also with that extent of water i think your ipod is dead, but lets just asume that its not that bad and you can "dry" it, you should try what she did and put it in rice to suck some of the moisture out, blow dry it stuff like that.

And a question to you, how do you forget a ipod in your pocket and wash it, it might just be me but i treat my ipod like its priceless, i always have to make sure i can see it or whoever has it is trustworthy. I think its apart of my "OCDness" sweatingbullets.gif

Actually it's an old Ipod so I've always treated it carelessly lol.
It's an Ipod mini, about 2 years old.

It's not dead I think, it lights up and you can add songs and delete songs connecting to Itunes, but I can't get to the songs, infact, I can't get to anything since all that shows up in a blank lighten up screen!

I'll try to the rice thing and low blowdrying.. I know there's water inside.

I accidentally washed my iPod earphones in the laundry, but they still work like new.
then again.. even if it didn't work, I wouldn't really care since they're not so great anyways.

Omgg, dudee.
I totally feel you.
I was brushing my hair earlier, and I had my ipod on the speakers. It was sitting on the counter, and I accidentally hit it with my arm into the toilet.
It's still on and there's random crap on the screen, but I just put it into a bowl of rice.
Hopefully, it'll work again.

if you still have your one year manufacture warranty call 1800myapple and complain about your "defected" battery. don't tell them its water damage.
