I recently got a Dell Inspiron 1525 and I can't seem to connect to the internet through my router unless the network is unsecured. I really want my network to be secured, so any ideas on how to fix this problem? Please and thank you!

Secured as in theres a password?
If you mean that then set up the router pw then go to the wireless control panel on your laptop and try to connect to the network and it should ask for a password.
It would help telling what you are running and what kind of router it is.

^I think you're a bit confused. The OP is asking how come their notebook's wireless card can only connect to unsecured networks, but cannot connect to secured networks.
To the OP, try updating the drivers of your wireless card on your notebook. Is your notebook old or new? Find out from the model what encryption capabilities it has.

Also make sure you're using the wep key rather than a password. Because if you use a password like "linksys" it will be different if you used the pasword for the wep on a different brand like netgear. Instead make sure you are using the WEP key that looks like a FCAD4473131ABCD type thing.

The router was WPA PSK secured. My old laptop, my brother's laptop, and the home computer were able to connect to it but for some reason, this laptop cannot when it is secured even when configured correctly. I've updated the drivers, and the router has the latest firmware. Could it be because of the old router? It's a BEFW11S4.

old router shouldn't be a problem. it's wireless B and slow and has bad range but unless you transfer files between comps wireless B shouldn't slow down your internet.
since you said you updated drivers i supposed your laptop detects the wireless network but can't connect... are you typing in the password correctly?
try taking off the password and connecting to it while it's unsecured. if you can connect, try using WEP instead of WPA and try again.
and just in case, check MAC filtering

Play around with the wpa psk and the keys. I just had to enter my password (which was a normal word) and it worked fine with the defaults. If you had to manually set it, you may have to adjust the thing to use WPA1 type thing (probably only an issue in XP)
Is your laptop new? New ones will support it... but many older laptops won't support WPA I had to replace a few cards when I went for WPA security
