What do you guys think of the new supra that is supposely in production
I like this car for the longest time and like it even more when I got a chance to drive one.Hopefully one day when I graduate I will be able to avoid one

Here's a brief description on toyota's concept vehicles

FT-HS — hybrid powertrain meets sports-car fundamentals
Pairing a potent hybrid powertrain with essential sports-car fundamentals, the FT-HS is a mid-priced sports car that integrates ecology and emotion in a concept that addresses the question, "What is a suitable sports car for the 21st century?"

Boasting a powerful V6 3.5L engine, the FT-HS is coupled with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive® to produce a target power output of approximately 400 horsepower and a projected zero-to-60 acceleration in the four-second range. At a mid-priced market position, the FT-HS would be a true "attainable exotic" with 21st-century performance.

A sculpted front and rear remove mass around key functional components, while the roof has a distinctive scooped-out section designed to reduce aerodynamic drag and provide head room at the key areas.

The FT-HS's interior features create a dedicated driver's cockpit that includes a cross-car instrument panel structure and delta-wing driver pod. An integrated instrument panel surrounds the driver, creating an enclosed pod effect. Armrests flow seamlessly into the door and surrounding interior. Seating is optimized for a lightweight appearance and function: The seating accommodates four and then converts to a two-seater when the roof retracts.

The body's like something out of Veilside's or Top Secret's books. I'll bet that it's going to be a hit, especially if its running as a Hybrid. I think I remember Toyota running an experimental version of the new engine at the Suzuka endurance races a few months ago...

Fast EDIT: V6? WHY did Toyota have to follow suit with Nissan and take out the Inline-6!? the 2JZ-GTE is what MADE the car!

Because technology has advanced enough to where inline 6 engines are outdated.

Black Supra seems somewhat close to the V12 Top Secret Supra...

the black car is a lexus lf-a... not the next supra. the next supra will not have a 500+ hp v10 motor with a 150k+ price tag

also the g can already run mid 13s stock and the hks intakes adds an estimated 10 extra hp and the exhausts add like 8 so yeah it should shove off about 1.5 to 2 sec off my times

inline6 weren't all that great.
yeah, they give the typical inline powerband in which you get smooth power delivery to a peak right before redline... but you lose out of the earlier torque that the v6 engines have. the v6 has a broad powerband while the inline6 has a peaky one.

another problem that caused the inline6 to become the "unwanted" engine is because of engine size and vehicle dynamics. why do you want an engine that hangs over the front axle in a sporty car that is supposed to be able to "handle" well? it only gives you one result.. a car that is slightly more front-heavy than a v6 powered car would be.
in turn, it gives you the effect of a more stable car(yet then again, isn't it only feeling like that because of a longer wheelbase?) because it doesn't rotate as easily as and a mid-front engine mounted car would. lower polar moment of intertia anyone? laugh.gif

the 2jz-gte allowed the supra to become a horsepower icon that it is known as today.. if you can remember(or knew for that fact..) back when Toyota campaigned a Supra chassis in the (then-JGTC) SuperGT series... it wasn't powered by a 2jz-gte, it was powered by an inline 4 dohc turbo 3s-gte. if you're wondering why that was the case... just go back and read the previous paragraph i wrote.

1. its not confirmed that the FT-HS will hold the Supra badge, so theres a possibility that its not gonna be named the legendary Supra, its the successor though, according the Wiki,

2. we all know the final production will looking nothing like that.

3. the bottom car is a LF-A
