my mom told me that european cars will have problems once reaching past 50,000 miles
you have to replace everything because the way they're built or something
and how it's more costly than japanese brands or whatever

now i don't know too much about what she claimed so i was wondering if anyone can tell me if that's true or not?
perhaps it's for older models or something....

because i'm finally going to get rid of my honda civic to my mom and get a new car soon
and hopefully the 320i >.<

your mom is telling you total bs. European cars can go well over 200,000 miles without problems. im guessing your mom is the typical asian adult who thinks japanese/korean cars are the best in the world?

^ f*ck yeah

i had this discussion with her yesterday and i kept trying to tell her if that was true then no one would buy them.....
it sounded unreasonable that a well built european car starts falling apart at 50,000 dry.gif
she kept telling me that i should just get a cheap reliable japanese car =_=
frankly i'm sick of driving honda and toyota's (even though i was thinking about getting a honda civic si)
my household has 3 toyota's, 1 honda, and 1 buick (which always has problems)

now i'm going to shove it in her face...in the nicest way possible =)
but seriously...i don't know why but i love the 320i
maybe because there's a really sexy one parked next to my parking spot at home and i ALWAYS pass by it

thank you for informing me biggrin.gif

I guess she never heard of that Volvo who has gone well over 2 million miles and barely has anything replaced.

Compromise... if you're not paying for it, that is.
If THEY are paying for it, ask about a Lexus. It's built by Toyota, lol. So you have Japanese standards in a luxury car? Personally, I don't like any BMW's except the Z4's and the 700 series.

Most European cars have engines that are basically indestructible...And have been said to last more longer than Japanese cars...

I've actually met the guy with the 2 million mile plus Volvo! That little P1800 is in great shape (looks great in person).

My Volvo S70 is still in very good condition and its over 200,000 miles now with the original engine, original transmission and original turbocharger.

i understand
I'm not one of those kids who absolutely refuse to drive anything under 40k
the reason why i want a 320i is because i can find brand new one's that are less than 30k, my range is 20k or so
i never compared european cars to a japanese one's....i just stated that i don't like limiting my choices to just only honda's and toyota's because everyone is my family has one. Sure it's reliable and cheap, but i rather get something different, reliable, and if it costs a little more than a japanese one, i'll help pay for it

i'm also looking into the 08 TL's since they're now having specials on them, and can actually negotiate for something under the msrp
which was nearly impossible a couple of months ago

i like the z4's as well....but too expensive >.<
i actually don't like the other models other than I series.....

I haven't personally owned a German car... but my old roomate was a HUGE VDUB'N GTI fan and he told me German cars have electronic problems and when something does break (not that often) that it's an arm and a leg to repair.

One time his radiator fan stopped working and the engine over heated when we were in NYC (RIGHT INFRONT OF HOLLAND TUNNEL)... found out the repair bill would be over $1,000 he junked it and got himself an RSX-S. Haaaa.

I know a noona who ONLY drove Benz's and she even told me the electronics systems a bit quirky at times.

I'm not against German cars, but if I got one, I would definately buy it new. This way I get to maximize the benefit of driving the car before everything starts wearing out/failing/breaking. I like to stick with the Japanese cars for daily driving be it econo or luxury. When we are talking performance, I'm not making any exclusions.

I drive a VW, and my dad used to drive a Volvo. It's true that the parts are much more expensive to maintain, but it's reliability depends on how well the owner treats it.

Man... a 10k checkup for my GTI costs like 400 bucks, 20k 500 bucks. That's ridiculous for on oil change and some other stuff.

you want a 320i because you can find brand new one's that are under 30k.
Are you living in US or different country???
because i don't think there is 320i in US.

let me know and i'll be more than happy to inform you as much as i can.

the 2006 model

i live in so cal so yes america

i just wanted to know if a newly bought 325i will have problems once it reaches 50k miles or perhaps after a year and a half
i don't know too much about bmw's so i was asking for opinions now i keep hearing different takes on it
because when i was talking with my cousin he told me that some bmw's have problems early on, while japanese cars would have the same problem just 5 year or somehting like that afterwards

mine is at 48k miles. no problems yet.
there shouldn't be any mechanical problems before 100k miles.
but you'll find little minor problems, which will be covered by the warranty.
if you're buying a used one from the dealership, you should probably pick the one with extended warranty
maintenance will be a lot more expensive if you let the dealership do it. (first 50k miles maintenance is free)
but if you're willing to do it yourself then it shouldn't be too expensive from any other cars.
www.e90post.com <---- go to the forum here.
you can find EVERYTHING about 06 and up 3 series.
make sure you use the search button before you post.
most of the members are a-hole about asking something that's already been covered.
and you'll find tons of members in california. and yes most of them will be asians. smile.gif

it actually depends on how you treat the car. if you don't floor it and abuse it, and do regular maintenance as required. it should last you a long long time. I've never owned a European car but my friends parents had a volvo 850 wagon and has it until last year when they traded it in for XC70 and S60 2.5T AWD. they've never had problems with it.

oh and btw, if you want to save money, buy a used or CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) BMW... cars are the worst investments because as soon as you drive off the lot, the car is worth 30%? less than what it used to be worth. But if your paranoid about used cars like my dad is, just get used and try to negotiate as much as possible. Also look at online BMW forums and see how much people are getting the car you want with same options etc for around your area. This will give you a ball park as to how much you can get it from the dealer without being ripped off.

Are you buying it with your money or is your mom buying it for you? if you are buying it with your own money, i would just go ahead and buy it haha. good luck.

ahhh thank you for the info
you answered the thing that was on my mind
i was planning on learning how to fix up cars from my dad, so now hearing that fixing it up wouldn't even be that big of a difference compared to any other car is music to my ears
thanks for the tip off on the search button
i don't really care if they're asian or not sweatingbullets.gif

good point i was trying to tell my mom that my gf used to have a benz from the 90's or somethign like that and because they take care of it well and regular maintenance it still runs sooo smoothly, plus it even still has some of the new car smell to it

yeah that's what i hear about cars. As soon as you leave the lot, next day or something you'll find it cheaper than when you paid for it =_=
I'm still debating whether or not i will get a 320i, top of my list so far, even if my mom agrees to it. I'm still exploring my options. It's just that it's not everyday you can find brand new 320i's for under 30k.

hahaha
i wish i had that much money to buy it myself, actually my mom is going to pay for it, and i'm going to chip in as well. Even though she's paying for the majority and it's going to be under my name, it's for both of us to use. Just me more =)

no. thats pretty much incorrect.

the great thing about bmw's is the warranty that comes with the car. i thinnk we have 5years or 100,000 mile warranty on the car, and they take care of EVERYTHING. even just tiny scratches on leather they fix. they do oil changes, tire rotations. its really convenient.

but there are cons to these cars, namely the premium gas they drink every week. and after your warranty expires the parts are damn expensive when you do need work done. that is, unless you renew the warranty, which in itself is very expensive, i think it was 5000.

thats whats better about toyota or honda, the part maintanence is pretty affordable, they can run on regular, and they are very reliable.
+there is always the cost factor.

my family relies so much on german cars. namely bmws. my parents have bought a couple over the years, but my mom still has her 91 camry, not that she drives it much. it just shows how reliable the car is. C:

there is nothing wrong with european cars, its just if you can afford them.
im not planning on buying a german car in the future, just because of the fact that i cant afford to be spending on premium gas each week.

----wow. that was really long. good luck with your future car.
