Since its almost the end of summer, well for me anyways, I want to know what kind of programs you guys did over summer and the feedback.
I'm looking into some pre-college ones that are geared towards science/leadership, but really, anything will do.
thanks a bunch.

Well, I'm more accounting oriented so I really don't know any science related summer programs, sorry.
But this summer I took an Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP) run by NABA, a University of Pennylvania Summer Mentorship Program for Medicine, and also a PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP accounting program during the whole school year that ended in June. All were great. :3
Just wondering, do (summer) programs play a significant role in your college resume or do admissions really not care about it?

my guidance counselor told me that the ones where you dont have to pay or have a specific goal are look good. But ones like Explo, or People to People, which are mostly camps, are like yea, she went. okay thats cool. Those dont really play a significant part in admissions.
But programs that speicalize in something like medicine, or like leadership makes your resume a bit shinier.

Well, I'm in this pre-college program called Upward Bound. Its for first generation college bound students and/or those with a low-income background.
There are two types: classic (which focus on English, math, and science), and Math & Science. I'm in classic UB.
This program is hosted by many different colleges.
Mine was hosted by Pasadena Community College.
Anyway, when you join, you agree to attend their Saturday sessions. You have to do two hours of tutoring every week (I sort of ditched that).
Then there's the summer. You take summer classes with them and prepare for the English, math, and science classes you're gonna take next fall. The summer thing is six weeks. First three weeks, we take classes in Pasadena CC. Then the next two weeks, we dorm in Cal Poly and take classes there. When dorming, they pretty much isolate you from the outside world by banning cell phones. lol. But don't worry, the RAs think up activities to do during free time. On the sixth week, you get to go to college tours!
Btw, they give you fee waivers for your SAT, ACT, and college applications and help you with that stuff.
So yeah, for those in HS, I recommend you to join this program if you can and if its available.

Diner Cook: She (Marge) left with rugged man.
Homer: (worried) Rugged? Is that the same thing as 'handsome'?
Diner Cook: Oh no. Handsome means he looks at himself in the mirror. Rugged means you look at him.
Homer: (groans)

I took a summer class at UC Merced and it was kind of fun.
It was a writing academy so it helped me write a better essay.
I heard that you had to write some kind of letter or essay to get into a university, so the summer program just helped us prepare for that if we plan on going straight to a university.

I took a summer program at Stanford University called EPGY (Education Program for Gifted Youth)
You dont get credits, but you can choose from a variety of courses/subjects.
Pretty expensive too.. but I had the time of my life there.
It was 3 weeks long. If you can, you really should go (=

I don't know any science camps but I just came back from an accounting camp last night.
It was an accounting career camp called CAMP over at UMASS Amherst.
I loved it! (besides the crappy dorms LOL) I really had a lot of fun and learned lots.
