for verizon, t-mobile & cingular/at&t they count each im you send as txt msg,
but for sprint, they don't count as txt msg, cause it's included in your internet fees.

if you have a data plan, try using ebuddy. that's what i use and it has msn, yahoo, gtalk and aim (and you can sign in to all of them at the same time).
