I love to run and lift weights. However, people have been warning me about doing it too often. "You'll stunt your growth/you'll get shorter" I'm aware I can hurt myself from injuries but that would be due to recklessness not excessive training. I'm still a teenager so I could see how running might lower my growth because it's high impact. Is this just a myth or is there any truth to it. For perspective, I run three miles a day everyday if not minus Sunday. I lift weight twice or three times a week. Also, is it healthy to burn more calories than you eat? Say I eat 5000 calories a day and burn 6000, let's just say that's not a ridiculous number of calories to burn. Is that unhealthy?

it's myth. weight lifting does not stunt your growth. excessive running, however, can jack up your knees bad, but you aren't running that much so it isn't too bad.

and if you're burning more calories than you take in, then you're going to be very lean.

Ah, okay, thank you for the input. I've been eating only about 2.5k kal a day and I was burning most of it was the reason I asked. I don't wanna jack up my body jsut to get fit.

Myth ~ As long as your getting enough sleep and eating consistently this should not be even notable for a 1 day rest break. Your training isn't crazy at all ~ You should detail to them what the average high school athlete goes through - That would blow their minds!

There is such a thing called overtraining but you wouldn't have to worry about that. You're routine is very basic and all those people saying it'll stunt your growth do not know what they are talking about. It has never been proven.

Honestly, it doesn't really sound like your over training yourself, and as long as your getting enough calories to replace what you've burned and enough protein to repair damaged muscles, I don't see any problems.
And if someone is accusing you of over training, point them to Michael Phelps. It's a bit of an extreme example, but that boy works out an insane amount and eats more at breakfast than I do all day. He's been training for the Olympics since he was eleven, so and he's definately not stunted.
On a side note though, if your running on a treadmill everyday, you might want to mix in some outdoor running, since treadmills can cause some big problems for your knees.

In the warmer months I exercise 25 hours or more a week (which works out to just nearly 4 hours a day), triatheletes for example do nothing but work out. I'm inclined to agree that excessive exercise is hard to achieve except you have to take care about your diet, burn too much fat and your body starts burning off MUSCLE instead.

Now that I think about it although I'm changing my diet to a more healthy one, I'm not monitoring my calories yet. I suppose I'm possibly not eating enough (I'm constantly hungry), glass houses and throwing stones.
