Like the other thread I did but reversed. What anime have you watched you thought was bad at first but then on second thought thought oppositely? What anime turned out better than what you were expecting? Anime that seemed bad but instead became good. Explain what you thought was bad and then what was good about it.

Animes I thought I was bad but then thought was good.

Eureka Seven - The idea for surfing in this anime looked weird to me when I first saw it. The art for this show also looked too bizzare. When I spent more time on this anime I began to like it. Some of the characters I didn't like at first Holland and Talho I liked after I knew them better. Although some people found the first half of this series boring I did not. I actually liked the first of half of Eureka Seven. When things in the story for this anime revealed itself more things get deeper. I liked some of the battles. Probably not the geatest but good to see. I liked the theme that this anime presents although others may share it too. The art I grew to start being fond of. Eureka Seven became one of my favorites.

Kaleido Star - This show is cool and kicks ass. It also became one of my favorites. I first watched it by seeing the opening theme song and sequence. At first I thought this anime was just a girl show and that the circus stuff in it would turn me off. I thought this anime was going to be something I might make fun of. So I went on and gave it a chance. And I have to say, this anime was a lot better than I thought. Kaleido Star is real nice. The animation in this series is one of the best I have ever seen in anime. I feel for the characters and the emotions being displayed. The main girl is hard not to like. If I had to pick who my favorite female character in anime is, it would be Sora Naegino. I strongly recommened seeing this anime if anyone just wants something to watch.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - At first I thought this was boring. Also got confused. I am not really into those slice of life type of series. Higurashi looked like it was trying to be that. The thing most that made me think it was bad was that I thought Higurashi was a random show. I wondered if this show was for real. When it got to the point where the show reveals itself to be a mystery or horror series I got hooked. I like how this anime would be all cute one moment then later it gets all creepy. I always liked the suspense this anime had. Although the events reseted itself I didn't mind. I was interested to see what they all lead to in the end.

Others I turned out to like better than I would have thought: Vampire Knight, One Piece. Maybe Hitman Reborn if I like it much and when I see a lot more of it.

Those are mines. What are yours?

honey and clover-i watched the first ep when it aired and found it really boring. i watched the whole series a few years later and it became one of my favorite romance shows. i guess i could tolerate slice of life shows better now?

shows involving a sport or game like prince of tennis, hikaru no go, etc. because i didn't imagine they could be all that interesting(especially if i didn't understand the game), but they hooked me in.

Tengen Teppan Gurren Lagunn
I thought I wouldn't like it much because of it's crazy art style, but boy was I wrong. It's one of the most EPIC animes I have ever seen and is currently one of my favorites.

Berserk
I watched this early 2008. The graphics were pretty outdated, so it kind of turned me off, but then I heard some good reviews for it and watched it for myself. I made myself a good decision.

Eyeshield 21
The characters looked all wacky and the show looked like it was gonna be too colorful for me. I picked it up one day and found myself laughing through each hysterical episode.

Bleach

The first couple of episodes were so boring. I actually stopped watching it for a while. Then I got bored, so decided to watch it again. It turned out really good. And I'm still loving it.

I agree, Eureka Seven was definitely one of those to be overlooked. I didn't like the artwork but the plot & stuff hooked me.

Gundam Seed Destiny was pretty good, though I was never into the Gundam series x:. Gintama & Samurai Champloo are also other ones that surprised me.

I'm with you on this one. Initially the artwork wasn't very attractive to me and the plot wasn't very intriguing either. And I thought the mecha designs were just plain weird. Artwork in general seemed a little childish to me. I only started watching it due to its immense popularity. As the story progressed and the characters were further developed, the story and characters became more likeable to me. Same goes for the artwork, I came to like it more after watching more episodes. I guess I just got use to it. I still felt it was a little childish but it was unique in its own right. What really drawed me into the anime was how well the action scenes were done; animation was top-notch, enjoyable, eye catching, and just damn epic. Overall, TTGL is just a very enjoyable and exciting anime. Best way to describe this anime is epic. lol

Twelve Kingdoms: You get some really, REALLY annoying characters in the first bunch of episodes... they redeem themselves a bit, and then get a bit annoying again later on. But the character development and plot are amazing. I especially love the Thousand Leagues of Wind, Sky at Dawn arc. Very good. The world is also quite unique, always a plus in fantasy stories.
