I got a lot of my freshman stuff - like getting my tech/internet accounts, learning more about my major, pick up my textbooks, stuff like that. Even parking permits ^^

personally i thought my orientation wasn't worth the money ($300). the only important thing i did was sign up for classes but it's easy to do by yourself at home too.

Whoa, $300.
I don't think we pay for orientation, it should be in the unit fees.

personally i say just go for it, you really only stand to gain. and i agree with harrypotter; it could potentially be a great way to start getting involved with the school and new friends.

Freshman orientation is a good way to start facing the reality of college as well as socializing with others that are about to start as well. It's much easier to register for classes and get some on site advice about different classes. My school had broken down the orientation by colleges so that all the students were from a similar major. I felt it was a good experience.

On the flip side of course, if you're low on cash you can always register outside of orientation and still get the classes you need.

We actually enrolled in classes at our orientation and the orientation process really helped me anticipate college more. Ours cost about $300 too (UCLA)-- but we're charged later in the fall. I personally really enjoyed it and met a lot of great people.

I was forced to go to mine. It is a must at my school. It lasted 2 days, now that's just gay. I've never thought an orientation would be that long. The only useful thing I got out of it was signing up for blackboard and a free t-shirt. That's it, everything else was a waste of my time. They never showed us how to sign up for classes and the advisers automatically enroll classes for incoming freshmans. I hated it.

I don't think it's absolutely necessary. I didn't go to mine and found my way around just fine.

It's not an absolute must, but it's a good way to meet a lot of new people and make new friends.

Mine was actually mandatory...so even if I didn't want to go (cuz I'm kinda shy >.<), I had to.

xD

It may seem like an awful waste of time if you don't really care, but it's very informative so you don't feel lost at your campus and you'll know at least some familiar faces once you start going to and from classes! (:

I am pretty sure mine was mandatory. It was actually pretty fun, I got to meet new people and make some friends I still keep in contact with and we are all 3rd years now.

It's a good opportunity to get to see the campus and at my school we even enrolled for classes during the orientation. It's up to you but, personally I would go.

My freshman orientation was mandatory too. The College of Engineering wouldn't give us our pin number until we went to orientation. And it was a two day thing, so it was pretty okay. The first day was like... a lot of talking. That night, we were allowed to do whatever we wanted to. We could go to one of the clubs that was practically on campus, we could go to the little wannabe-arcade they have (busted my ASS playing DDR). Second day was the tours and signing up for classes.

But I went to the African American Symposium the day before, which was a WHOLE lot more helpful than the orientation. I think it was because we had students tell us the dos and don'ts of being a college student (seriously. If you're like me, don't take naps between classes. You'll end up sleeping through the rest of them... =X) and all of that.

if you dunno your way around campus, going to orientation would be a good thing to do.
also you can learn all bout classes, safety, transportation, etc.

my orientation was mandatory but i already knew the campus & slept at like 3am the night before, so i sorta slept thru orientation. i did get lots of free stuff, like cookies, tees, pens, & condoms. haha

I went to mine early in June. It was mandatory, and I didn't care to go to it, so it was a waste of time for me. The only thing "exciting", I guess is that I got my schedule! I didn't know some people have to pay for orientation?! $300?! O_o
I kinda weren't paying attention, so I have to figure my way around campus on the first day. Psh. sleep.gif

But yes, go! I don't see why not. O.o
