This is retarded, but I'm torn between whether to stay in band or quit.
band in summer/football season = marching
band in winter = concert season
Pros:
credit
could get a scholarship if I stay all 4 years
I love music
get to skip class lol
band trip!
exercise, which I direly need. lol
cons:
money [fees] ---> and I play clarinet. cost of reeds just sky rocketed 'cause of gas prices
NO RIDE <-- major issue
marching is a lot of work
band teacher is freakin bipolar.
i suck/hate practicing
pressue
games make you tired and have no time for homework/other things
sunburn/tan
new kids 'cause of IB program. They suck.
I'm not going to major in music
I skipped about a week and a half of band camp right now.
I was gonna quit for sure, until I just finished watching a couple eps of Nodame Cantabile again. lol
That made me waver a bit...
Can I get opinions / suggestions?
I'm one of those indecisive people. lol

You love music, but that doesn't mean you have to be in music in school. You can play on the side or during your free time.
How many years of school do you have left? If it's just one year, then I would probably stay in band. If you have, say, three years, do you think you could deal with all the stress that comes with band for that long? Especially since each year in school just gets harder (not including end of senior year, of course).
Why did you choose to do band? Do you still feel that way?
I wouldn't go with your feelings on this decision. Just really look and see if the pros are worth the cons you have to endure.
One pro I thought of that you didn't put on the list is that you probably have a lot of friends in band (I'm guessing, since you're excited about the band trip). Having a class with a bunch of your friends really nice!

That's all I needed to read.
Stick to what you love, at least you're someone who followed their heart.

Band is like family. It sucks and its annoying, but once it's gone, you miss it like crazy.

But if you really love to play the clarinet, you should just practice at home without being in the marching band. Music can be loved without being in an organization. If marching band is that much of hassle to do, and also the fact you have no ride, you shouldnt have to stress yourself to try to make it in every game. Unless you carpool. Also, you should try to focus more on grades than band, true colleges may give you scholarships, but the fact you play any instrument can give the same benefits, and it helps to have good grades.

The big issue on hand though is ..
is all the stress worth it?
I have three years left..

I'm stressed because I don't know if I can
afford the college I want to go to w/o a music scholarship.

How much do you "hate practicing"? I'm actually getting frustrated with orchestra, sort of like your situation, so I know what you're going through. However, I only have one year left, and so I'm choosing to stay. One year of getting frustrated with practicing and time management isn't too bad for me, but three...? If you are really frustrated with it, that will bring up a lot of stress over a long period of time.
However, if you are really inspired right now, wait a while and see how it goes. You could just be going through a low point.

I'm a bandgeek myself (I can't believe I'm saying this).
Well, I'm going into my last year and the marks are REALLY good for university.
But it is tough work especially if your school has a good music program
I met some amazing people and the experience was great.
So stay (:
I thought about quitting last year and I'm really glad I didn't.
I know some people that really regret dropping.

im currently a senior now and my 4th year of MB is 1/4 done.
its good to stay in it beacuse all those scholorships and stuff.
my grades are horrible and band was a way to maybe help my grades a little.
i was 1st chair in our symphonic band [middle band] last year.
this year i am currently in the symphonic wind ensemble [highest band]
so if my band rank is good the better my scholorships could be.
im gonna go to university of hawaii next year and be in that MB cuz my grades are just about what i need to get in.
plus its where i live so my tuition will be cheaper.
so i guess if you want cheaper tuition stay in it.
if not then quit but your gonna be missing out on the best parts of it.
the blood, sweat and tears are all worth it in the end.
this video is from my freshman year. we did pirates.

I'm also a band geek. I skipped my freashman year I regret it. Like someone posted before, band is like family. You meet all these new people, some will make a big impact in your life, some might not, some might get on your last nerves but hey. [: All those football games, basketball games, band reviews, band trip, car ride issues, less time for school work, ect you get use to it sooner or later. [i dont practice at home at all x:] I know i'm not gunna major in music but band makes me feel more comfortable at school. I dunno. [plus makes me feel important /:] I have a few friends that are in your position. They dont know if they should quit or not cause of the stress and schoolwork.
Err. Just think about what's more important to you. I'd stay, it's a lot a of work but it pays off at the end. I'll miss it a lot when i leave.

So, anyways.
I hope you stay. I don't know about your school, or your experiences, but marching on the field/ street was such an incredible experience for me. I really hope you stay, because it's the kind of experience that just... yeah, it's so worthwhile. And if you had any second thoughts at all, then I don't think quitting would have been right.
Right, so I'm not in colorguard anymore, because my parents want me to focus on school. So, I kind of want you to stay in band because I can't be in guard anymore.
Well, sorry if this didn't make too much sense, but it is high school. You should make as many of these sorts of memories as you can.
In otherwords, what dancingbymyself said. CG/ MB love!

Throughout the four years.. my parents have gotten angry and stuff a lot since MB took up.. 75% of my time. At my school, they required all MB people to take a concert band, which takes up two class slots in all of my schedules. Most of the time, I was too tired after the performances/competitions/practices for homework/studying. My grades sort of suffered even though I worked hard. Overall, I still stayed.. but that's just me.
I have a somewhat.. love-hate relationship w/ MB. I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything else, though.
