Hi, my contract is ending soon and i'm really interested in the sony ericsson w580i pink phone...however when i read reviews etc, lot of people say that the keypad breaks/cracks down the middle easily?

Does anyone have this phone and can comment on that?

Thanks in advance~

It's really depending on if you drop the phone alot and if you text alot. I have had the phone for over a year now and The only cracked key i have is the number 2.

this is only true of pre-week 22 models. anything made after mid-july of 2007 will not have the same fragility of the initial models.

go ahead and get it if it's what you want. you'll have no problems

unless of course you treat your phone like crap and box with the keys

The only non-cracked key is Number 5. LMFAO.

you've had it since then but that doesn't mean it was manufactured then.

sounds like you have a pre-22 batch phone.

if you've gone into an at&t store recently and felt the keys, you'll notice that they're made of a different material now so the problem has been fixed. but it's a known problem and if you send the phone back (i'm not sure if it's to at&t or sony ericsson), they'll send you a brand new one. i have dozens of friends that have sent theirs back (along with the S500) and gotten a new one without a hassle. if by chance you get hassled, ask to talk to someone that knows what they're doing because, like i said, it's a known problem that sony ericsson has admitted to (something to do with the paint they were using).

unlike previously stated, i think it has to have been made after 4/2008.

The unlocked one tends to crack. If you're with AT&T, you can get their version of the w580i which has metal buttons instead of the plastic ones that the unlocked w580i tend to have.

since you're with rogers, you should check out the W350a that was released recently! i know it's not a cute pink or a slider but i think it's a really neat phone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7kNd-HbnIY

and if you're worried about the keys, check out (or maybe it's not released yet - i don't know 'cuz i'm in the u.s.) W760. it's similar except it has a 3mp camera and a GPS receiver.

just some thoughts...

Hey, i have the phone except in gray i've had it for a year now and i have absolutely no cracks on my keys all, i just have some faded lines at the side of the numbers because of the slider, i don't know if this is for every w580 phone but that's what happened to me cause i use it a lot and i slide it up.

My friend have a phone almost the same as this one and her keys are broken in the middle except 2 or 3 keys.
It looks crappy but it makes texting a bit easier actually.
