I have 50+ icons. Mostly are shortcuts to programs and games. Some of them are files that are downloaded from the internet and awaiting for me to organize and put them in the respective folders.

On my previous Thinkpad, I had 0 - clean desktop ftw. I just relied on my quicklaunch buttons (firefox, AIM, and Word) or the most commonly used programs in the start toolbar.

Now, on my Mac, I've got 14 icons in my dock, and just my HD icon on the desktop.
