I have a Samsung 920a (yaah its pretty old and shoddy) any ways, yes you can use .mp3 ring tones for messages instead of the default menu. But I can't gaurentee it'll do the same with the newer models, since mine is probably 2-3 years old?

isnt this something that your service provider sometimes blocks?
i know with my moms samsung our service provider blocked the option to have your own ringtones (so you have to buy theirs grrr)
same thing with my phone (but my phone is nokia) but i had to get it... fixed so then i could use my own ringtones.

both phones can play mp3s though!

I had a samsung like three years ago before I switched to Lg phones. I remember I could back then. I would go to a website and send an mp3 file to myself and save it as a sound. Then go to sounds and make it as a ringtone.

I never knew samsung restrictricted the use of .mp3 files as ringing or message tone. My old phone (samsung d600) and my present phone (g810) can use .mp3 as sms tone and whatnot.

maybe you saved it in your SD card, if you have one. i have a u600 and i have a spare phone, an e250. my u600 accepts .mp3/.wma files for message alert tones, but the e250 only uses the default message alert tones.

I have a Samsung SHG-i450, and I have no trouble setting MP3 as tones or SMS. You should be able to change it, whenever I want to change my SMS tone, all the MP3 songs i have are on the menu lists.

what is your phone model, by the way? we could be able to help you out if you let us know. or better yet, type your phone model in your search engine and you would be able to find out what the specs of your phone are. smile.gif

as far as i know, the phones under the D series (i dunno what you call them, lol) like the d600, d900, etc., can't set mp3 files as sms tones.
