Hi soompiers~
Well im not sure if this is the best place to ask but ill try anyway.
Just as the topic says- what are the some reasons which go AGAINST the creation of a FTA between China and Australia. It's for a debate due soon for uni.

Some reasons I have managed to brainstorm include:

- China's reluctance for regulatory change, and full marketization- it is still an authoritarian dictatorship (although it has opened up a lot)
- China's history for notorious denial of human freedoms
- Australia is wary about their companies being owned by china
- Competition in the agricultural and manufacturing system- could see lots of domestic producers go out of business
- Doubting China's "peaceful development" resolve- as it is apparently one of nations that is "competing with the US in seeking to build space-mounted weapons systems to orbit the Earth."
- China is the world's biggest emitter of greenhouse gases

.... help me out guys.

Thanks!

doesnt belong here. you can try the college forum or something. most of your reason of china against the creation has nothing to do with your topic (except for the first one).

Try this
FTA between Australia & China
http://www.dfat.gov.au/geo/china/fta/

Australia and China move closer to FTA
http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/business/it...04/s2220466.htm

Australia-China Free Trade Agreement from Australian chamber of commerce
http://www.acci.asn.au/text_files/issues_p...ber%202004_.pdf

FTA issue:-

1. China doesn't want to fully open up its agricultural sector to Australia
2. Australia doesn't want to fully open up textile and clothing/footwear sector
3. Australia ask China to improve human rights and pollution
4. Australia already implemented ombudsman agency to monitor China's aggressive take over of Australia's resource companies - already Australia's federal govt have stopped several China's takeovers.
5. Australia ask more foreign ownership of companies operating in China, currently foreign companies only can operates as 49% of ownership in China.
6. Australia currently forbid foreign media ownerships, but this was loosen after several State govt have passed the bill to allowed foreign ownerships. Already several Australian media companies TV channels, radio and newspapers are bid by US & British companies.

humm seems like an agreement will be hard to achieve because no one wants to make concessions.
On the one hand China is fully playing the capitalist game but on the other, limits it inside China. But who says that free trade has to involve foreign ownerships of national companies.
Each are asking something to the other that they are not really implementing themselves. Then at the end it seems like it's alla bout those who ask the most that are in fault. But Australia needs more CHina than China needs Australia...

anyway im not answering anything here..haha dry.gif
