Here in Canada you can take up to 90 credit hrs a year. I'm wondering if I should take a full course load or not for my first year at uni. I don't have a job since I'm not a Canadian citizen which gives me more time to study (but having to ask my parents for money sleep.gif), so what advice do you have for me??

btw, I'm aiming for a B.Sc so I'm looking at taking bio, chem, phys, calc etc.

When I started out my first quarter at uni, I took less units. I knew I needed the time to settle in, get used to the workload and the resources offered to me on campus. I suggest you take a small course load so you can explore other opportunities (making sure where everything is, tutoring, getting used to the school system, etc) in your college before you take on the full course load. This would be a good chance for you to relax a bit before you finally get settled in.

Maybe you should lighten up the load a little bit so you don't get too stressed. And if u think u handle it well, u can take on full load next time? Its always better to do less than to do too much where you won't do good.

I would really not advise taking a full course load your first time at uni unless your the type that just likes to go that extra mile in everything... I mean I tried that when I first started college, I ended up dropping a class and had an overall hard semester due to the workload. Then again, everyones different, some people like that kind of thing, not me tho heh.

If you're planning on going to medschool, you should take a full course load, because this is something they consider when looking at your application.

You get 90 credits hours a year? I only have 30. That's the max.
Assess yourself. If you believe you need your time to balance things out, don't take the full course load.
Full course load = no social life what so ever. In addition to the difficulty and what not of those classes.
Hell with all those science courses and lab component, you're gonna really be needing any free time you can get.
Don't overwork yourself if nothing is gonna show for it.

Ah your right! 90 hrs is the amount you need to graduate and 30 is the max... my head got confuzled :/
I've decided to take your advice! Atleast for the first term, it's better to get the feel of uni and how much work I need to put in. Because I registered late I'm on a waiting list... but hopefully it'll clear^^

What about summer courses? Are they worth it??

id say lighten up your first semester and see how it goes. try to get used to college life first (because the transition from HS to uni is beyond HUUGE!) if you feel youre ready for it, pack as much as you want 2nd semester, because you get most of your required credits out of the way earlier, youd have a lighter load in future yrs and you might even be able to graduate earlier ^^
