Why Did You Go To University/college?

Most asians I know are in life sciences. Are all of them becoming doctors no or pursuing something in the medical field? No. In fact, I'd say 60% of them have already switched programs or are contemplating it. The reason being is they didn't actually take the time to consider what is actually right for them and just lept blindly, like a lemming, into the program that everyone else is went into. lets narrow it down:
If you didn't go into life sciences, you most likely went into engineering, and if you didn't go into engineering you most likely went into business.
Of course there are a bunch of people who actually went into university and into a program against their parents wishes. For the most part however, a lot of people went into university without thinking. I know I did. So why'd you go to university/college?
*by the way, I'm in the military now and am doing just as well as any university/college grad would be doing. I'd say even better, since I'm making just as much as they will be making once they graduate and the same as them when they've been in their profession for a couple of years.*

It will be easier for me to get a job with a degree compared to a person w/o one.
Better pay.
College experience.
Yes you can succeed without a 4 year degree. But it's that much harder to succeed w/o one.

well i went to college because thats what ur supposed to do after hs. or thats the whole idea anyway. everyone didnt even consider NOT going. its like not an option. it was always accepted by my parents that i would go and i never questioned it. and thats how it went. though i jumped in with absolutely no clue about what the heck i was even doing there. i know how asian parents are: must go into sciences or medical or engineering or suffer the consquences of being unsuccessful and poor. however my parents were somewhat disappointed when i ended up choosing a social science degree instead. HA. teach them to give me options.

Yes you will make the same as college grads for some time, but then their incomes will generally make big leaps, and have no real stopping point, whereas a military income will generally stay the same, unless your a civilian working in/for the military/govt., in which case your income will still hit a final plateu eventually.
So in other words, you goto college, you have a chance at getting a job where your income possibilities are endless and you are not tied down to a government entity, whereas with the military, you get different fixed incomes that are garunteed, and yet your income possibilities in the military/govt. are limited, as well as the fact that you are now theirs for as long as the contract they had you sign says you are.

but know what? I don't regret going to school. I learn so much, not only about the world, people, but also about myself. And you are stereotyping a lot of the programs. Business for example, in my opinion, is the most flexible studying area. it is a skill, and can be applied to anything. You'll be surprised how much you can achieve with a little knowledge about finance and people.
it's true most university programs are BORING, but it doesn't necessarily it's useless. obviously it's not for everyone and the only way to life. but for majority of the people, it is a good path towards a comfortable life.

If you aren't born into money, unless you have a solid plan (as mentioned earlier) you'll probably never make it out of whatever economic class you're born into.
So... just go to work, do the 9-5... try to find happiness and pass onto the next realm.

I haven't regretted it yet, but I feel like I'm behind and should have worked harder to climb that ladder faster.
