to make my subtitles i use DivXLand and to hardsub VirtualDub
my problem is that when i try to hardsub some of the lyrics/sentences stay less (for example instead of 4 sec appears for 1sec)
i notice that this happens when the transl is too short and the speach is longer
any ideea what can i do? is there any option on VirtualDub or DivXLand that i can check?

Erm... I haven't encountered this problem before. I don't think vdub nor divxland does this.
Anyway, you said that it happens when there are short scripts with longer speeches.
Have you actually considered on timing the script accdg to how the speech goes? I mean if the talking parts goes up to 10secs, then time the script to 10secs as well.
OR
Try tweaking the options in divxland. go to settings >> general settings >> timing management
when there, uncheck everything except for autosplit subtitles exceeding 2 lines.
This will turn your subtitle according to how you made / timed it.
