Type of car (sporty, luxury, economy, SUV):
Price range: free-25k
New or used: both.
Manual or automatic: Both.
Years of driving: -1year
Cars currently suggesting: 2007 Ford Expedition. 2009 Ford Taurus. 2009 Toyota Yaris Liftback.
Needs and other info (do you need passenger room, cargo space, AWD, etc):

Ok. So i'm going to be getting my first car soon and i'm surrounded by choices.
My mom wants me to take her car (expedition aka huge behind suv) so she can get a Escalade
Pro: It's hooked up
Con: It's a bit much

My dad want's me to get a Taurus, because it's like the safest car there is.
Pro: Safe
Con: Old lady car

I want to get a Yaris because it's so cute (it looks like a jellybean <3)
Pro:Cute
Con: Too cute... is it really a good car for a guy.

I live in the burbs, and I rarely go anywhere far away so MPG isn't a huge deal to me.
I'm probably not going to be driving with more than 2-3 people in the car at a time.

So. People of the car section of soompi. I have a hard decision to make.
All three of these cars are balanced in my head right now. So do you guys know any
up/downsides that will tip the scales.

If gas isn't an issue, I would take the Expedition..... but I wouldn't let your mom get an Escalade. By your choice, if you pick the Expedition and she automatically gets the Escalade, take the Taurus.

If this is the first year driving, do not get a new car. You will dent, scratch, or crash it.

maybe a honda fit? if you think the yaris is "too cute"

i think the yaris hatch looks like an egg lol

http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-spec-ford-fiesta/993774/
i'd want that if i had to choose an american car biggrin.gif lol
or chevy cruze D:

but out of your choices....
i'd choose the expedition if my parents paid for gas

if not i'd take the yaris regardless of how cute it is

the new taurus isn't that bad looking..but very boring...and i hate driving big cars..

You dad shouldve waited for the 2010 Taurus. It is based on the European Mondeo biggrin.gif. The same car James Bond used. That 4 door one.

What about the Scion cars? Decent on gas and aren't too "cute".

^ screw the scion's and go with a used car smile.gif , never get a new car as a first car. If u want a gas saver , might as well get a Echo or Yaris

imo suvs are bit hefty and hard to maneuver. you'll have an easier time with the yaris or taurus. Bythe way, ford sucks, breaks all the time. I know by experience.

Volkswagen Touareg. SUV form without the huge size, european styling for the chickies to diggie. Aero form with enough bulk to make it a manly car but not enough power to make it quite american brute. Great reviews to boot too.

Thats a pretty typical response. I guess you missed a recent report saying how Toyota has dropped in reliability ratings while Ford is rising. Also, if I remember correctly, Mazda is still below ford in reliability or so that reports says. So I am basing it on a report biggrin.gif

Ford Taurus also has legendary 0-60 time.

10.5 SECONDS!

Btw OP, the car you want is a Nissan Titan.

I think that's exactly what you're looking for, at 18 MPG. No more than 2-3 people at a time in your car.
If you want to carry around about 7 more people, they can go in the trunk bed.

Looks pretty cute too.

I'd say it looks like a streamlined arrow ready to pierce through other cars

I remember a few years ago. A Civic t-boned a Taurus and the Taurus only got a few dents while the Civic's frontend was shattered.

You forgot to recommend hatchback or sedan.

Speed or normal.

Haha. Idk... I can always get a new car when I graduate college (four years away)
And what's wrong with Escalade. She just wants it to show off.

According to the Ford website, it's the safest full size car in america.

If you get the Yaris liftback, you can always mod it. I think blitz made a supercharger kit for it.

I would say no Escalade for your mom because it's simply not fuel efficient, and it's not good for the environment.

BUT... hey, it's your money not mine? I drive a Lexus to show off, though, not a gas-guzzling monster, haha.

Anyhow... even if MPG isn't a concern of yours.. just the whole environmental issue... I'd get a MPG-efficient car for the environment ? Someone mentioned the Scion, but if those are your only three choices the Yaris IS pretty cute xp.

God, I want to dream again. Take me somewhere I've never been. This time I'm not scared. facebook

Yaris is a good car, you should get it, plus even if you dent it its cheap to repair.

MPG does not relate to how much toxic waste comes out of your exhaust. Some cars with high MPG can spew out a lot of pollutants while others with low MPG can spew out little. Though the common trend is higher MPG = less pollutants and I agree about that.
