Can you be more specific regarding what you would like to do with the camera (as in just taking any kind of pictures like people/friends, etc, or landscapes and those kinds of things), and if you're big about megapixels?

The SD1100IS and SD870/IS are good, IMO.

I agree to the person who said Canon SD1100IS. Comes in different colors and has 8 megapixels, so it fits what you need. And it's perfect for taking pictures with friends and family because it's very user friendly and pictures come out great. I have the older model, the SD1000 and I love it to pieces.

If large print is important to you, a Canon SD950 IS is great as well. It boasts 12.1 MP and has all the usual positives a Canon gives you. I've owned 6 Canon Point and Shoots and I've never been unsatisfied. Cost is slightly above $300. I own this camera.

If not, the SD870 IS (8 MP) is awesome due to its' wide angle lense. Ideal and more flexible for landscape/scenic shots. Don't worry about MP too much unless you plan to print on larger paper. Even with the largest of computer monitors, there is no difference of resolution quality on screen (in terms of MP) if it is 5 MP or 12 MP. The reslution of a 30 inch computer monitor or ANY HDTV is less than 5 MP, so if all you're planning to do is view it on your computer or a HDTV, you'll tell no difference between anything above 5 MP. Any differences are due to other factors such as quality of lense in the camera and obviously the photographer's skill. MP has nothing to do with quality of shots on screen (I say this because I don't think they even make cameras that are less than 5 MP) . Remember, it matters primarily for PRINT. smile.gif
