So last week I tried to record something on my laptop with a plug in mic {not USB} but the recorder detects the laptop mic instead. Is it possible to turn the laptop mic off so I can record with the mic I plugged? Because when I record with my laptop mic it sounds really soft and the volumn of m voice goes high and low.

Normally when you plug in a microphone it will turn off the internal mic so the only the one you plugged in works. But you can check volume control (click device? [top corner] and select recording controls) and you should be able to mute the stuff you don't want
