I always thought fish was great for your diet. When However after doing a little research from this web site. They said 1/2 filet of salmon is 350 calories but it includes 200 fat calories as well. Is this consider good?

I checked out Tilapia and its around the same as well? Is tilapia something we can eat 5-6 times a week?

Its also high in cholesterol

You need calories in your diet...it's how you live. Same with fat.

Like jkstyle said, in moderation is probably best.

++ it tastes good too ^^

Good source of Omega 3's, but just don't deep fry the fish.

You shouldn't eat fish so often, 1-2x a week is more than enough

especially tilapias, they are bad for your health, you shouldn't eat it more than once a week, it's high of fatty acids

Farm raised fish are bad. Wild ones are much better, as they have omega 3 fatty acids.
My dad eats a can of wild sardines every night sweatingbullets.gif since they have less mercury compared to bigger fish.
Farm raised ones are high in omega 6 fatty acids. You need a balance of omega 3's and omega 6's and theres only a couple foods that have omega 3's. >_<
Farm raised fish are generally not as healthy..and probably have more fat in them.
Same with farm raised anything, though.. wacko.gif

it's good for you. only because americans don't eat it enough so that's why they say 'it's good for you, eat more' bc of the omega 3 lacking here.

there are GOOD fats and BAD fats. salmon.. has GOOD FATS. chips and fried mini cooper your get at mc donalds= bad fats
contrary to popular belief- some type of fats ARE indeed good for you.
theres a limit to everything. yes, you Can't have too much of anything..even water

salmon, along with other fish types have what is called- MERCURY.
it is poisonous and a high content level of mercury in a person can lead to brain damage...and worse.
chicken also has mercury.... but.. anyways. just don't have too much of anything. smile.gif

Most of the calories come from fat and protein in the fish.
The fat is omega 3 fats and none of it is saturated fats/cholesterol.

Say you have 200 g of grilled salmon, that's 280 calories.
126 calories from fat and 152 calories from protein.

The high in cholesterol is because of the way it is cooked. If you deep fry the fish or cook it in lots of butter you will increase the "bad" fats, which are the ones you want to eat less of.

Fish is particularly good for cardiovascular reasons. Your heart utilizes the Omega-3 fatty acids as fuel much more efficiently. But yes, moderation is key because a fat is still a fat and you don't want to eat too much.

yes it's a good source of protein like people on this thread said, but it's the omega 3 that's particularly good for you. it's contained in fish and lowers your cholesterol. it's really good for your health but for people like me who don't eat fish as often, i buy omega 3 fish pills in bulk.

Well,it's high in fat due to the fish oil....which is really good for you smile.gif. But you have to remember to eat it moderately. Too much of anything is bad

I think it also depends on how you cook it.. unless they meant it already has that amount while it's raw. Fish is good for you because it's a good source of essential fatty acids which are good for your brain if I remember correctly. As other people have said before, eat everything in moderation.
Another thing I recall seeing was a list of fish and saying what was the healthiest.. or something like that. They said Wild Alaskan Salmon was the healthiest because it had the lowest contamination and I think the highest amount of Omega-3 though I'm not too sure about that.. If I ever find the site, I'll put it up.
