This article right here, is about a baby falling from 3 stories high and having their diaper snag onto something, and lessening their fall.

Thus slowing the speed the baby would have hit the ground.

"It wasn't the diaper that saved him," Massaneiro told the newspaper. "It was God."

I honestly hate people who say these kind of things.

Please discuss, or tell me why I am going to hell.

Thanks.

Little history about me.

1. Raised catholic

2. Doesn't really understand why when he asks his mom to pray for him to become rich, she replied with, "No, but I will ask god to give you the strength to work hard everyday"

Wow, thanks.

3. Has no problem with people who believe in god, just don't be lame pls.

4. there's cute girls @ church, ^__^

5. Girl's at church youth groups tend to dress promiscuously, why? I dunno.

people need something to believe in but they are fickle and need constant reassurance. For these reasons, many feel compelled to attribute anything positive to God; proof to them that their faith is not in vain and that what they have devoted so much of their lives to is not a waste. If people cannot explain something it disturbs them and leaves them feeling off-balance and confused. It's easier to say "Oh it's God's will that this happened" and feel comforted in knowing that someone else is creating order from the chaos in this world. biggrin.gif

Not to set anyone off but I am not religious; however, I have a great respect for those who have an honest and open spiritualism and who don't use religion as an excuse to be unkind to or exclude others. If it brings you comfort, if it gives you hope, if it calms you down in times of chaos, then what harm is it? biggrin.gif

God hit America with Katrina for allowing same sex marriage, remember?
According to Sharon Stone, Karma slapped China with an earthquake for being mean to the Dalai Lama.

I've seen countless people who started in their church, grown up, and have been treated badly by other church goers... and then eventually fall away from God.
I don't know what it's like 100%, but I was close to becoming one of them too.

Religion, faith, Christianity, is... a lot of hype.
What I've realized is that my walk with God is... MY walk with Him.
It's like any other relationship, but with someone who is all-powerful, all knowing, and most importantly actively involved with my life.

I think there's a HUGE difference between my walk with God and church. Church can be a place to nurture and support each other, but many times, I've seen it do the complete opposite. People aren't perfect.. and church is filled with people... I struggle with a lot of the church related cultural BS all the time, but I believe it makes me a stronger person. Because I deal with not only life's struggles, but also with my walk with God, I honestly believe I am gaining twice the experience and opportunity as those who don't believe. Experiences can be good or bad, but whatever they are, I've found that He's blocked me from events that I cannot handle, and letting my struggle and grow through issues I can.

But the reason I believe, is not because it makes me into some magical good person or to better myself, although it may be a positive byproduct.
It's because when I believe that Jesus is the only one to grant me eternal life, the only one who can save me from death.

It's true that I credit God for good things, but I don't credit him for doing bad things.
Let me play the devil's advocate. Why is it that people rarely credit God for the good things, but ask him what He was doing, where he was when bad things happen. The Devil is NEVER blamed for HIS doings. There's SO many times people blame God for catastrophic events, when it was actually the devil.

I was born into the church, but never really had much of a bond with God until I sat down and wondered how I got to the place I was.
When I looked back, there was just too much left to chance for it to be just a coincidence. I whole-heartily believe he has lead me and is guiding me.
It's unfair that someone could blame God for some kind of unhappiness/lack of contentment/abandonment that he/she may be experiencing. He IS reaching out to you... but if you don't allow him to help you, you aren't giving him a fair chance, just like any other relationship.

I'm not here to argue, I'm not here to prove, I just feel like I've been so blessed so much and would like to share it with you...

and there is no point to argue with people who block what they don't want to hear and believe, yet only believe what they want
not saying that's you just putting it out there...

Well, first of all, not all churches are equal, some are weaker/stronger. Secondly, Catholic and Christian churches, as well as the teachings are different. And third, people may believe in a God, but it may not be the God from the Bible. They may not even be religious when they attribute miracles to be a work of God, and when they say "God," it's just some higher being that chooses to intervene in certain situations.
What I believe is that faith and faith alone in Jesus Christ (fully man and God), who died for our sins and rose again, can allow one to enter into eternity with God. Personally, I believe this because I want this perfect relationship with God in Heaven and if people knew how scary of a place Hell is, they wouldn't be apathetic about going there, especially for eternity.

But yup, God is sovereign, that's why I think it has to be God when something good happens. biggrin.gif

I used to be Christian. Fell out of it because of just seeing other Christians and how they acted just really threw me off. Now I'm not bagging on those Christians who really are good Christians out there. But seen too much hypocrisy and elitism attitude to want to associate myself with that. Plus one of the major things about Christians is that alot of them really don't understand the fundamentals of Christianity. I could debate with other Christians and push them into a corner where their only comeback was, "It's God's plan." I see this statement as just flawed. Because you don't know the answer you just say everything is God's plan. If anything I believed God gave people free choice, that there is no set "fate" for people.

I do however believe there is a higher being. Whether he's in it to help us or screw us....well that's up for grabs. I gave up Christianity because I just couldn't believe certain things from the Bible or certain teachings.

But hey, this is just all my opinion ^^

God, fate, diaper, placement of spikes... whatever. All I got to say is like many things, everyone's entitled to their own opinions.

Just don't push your faith on me. I'm not the walls of Jericho. I won't cave in. I'm Christian, but I worship a little less intensely than most Christians I know.

Eh... people along the history?

Well.. I think some human likes to form a figure who is perfect and will forgive/ cheer you everything. There you got it! Nobody worships their parents or friends because it is easily noticable of their flaws.... ph34r.gif

Well.. for some people always like to give credit to the big ole' god because it just happaned without explanation!

I would say magic, or just happened but some people say Gog helped it!

I agree. I have a brother who's a full blown Christian always telling me to pray when someone I know and love is sick and He will answer. I can't stand how whenever good things happen, "Oh thank God! He answered our prayers" etc. But when things go wrong "Oh it was just meant to be, it was just their time." That's bull. sleep.gif IMO.

Well, in church, you learn that everything good comes from God.

"Every good and perfect thing comes from you, Father of lights."

Because...people...believe in him? That's really all there is to it.

This country (America) is a mostly Christian country (or it used to be. that's how it was intended. freedom of religion, all that).

I'm sure you, the poster of this thread, believes in something or someone. Maybe just not as strongly as other people.

Now, just think. Let's say, for the sake of this discussion, that you were Buddhist. Say your BABY, your CHILD, was falling from a building and it's diaper just randomly snagged on something that saved it's life. Say you told the reporters "It wasn't the diaper. It was Buddha" or whatever forces you believe in. Would you enoy it if others did what you're doing here?

Just...put yourself in that guys shoes and learn to deal with the diversity that makes this place America.

And, honestly, I REALLY did not mean to offend anyone if I did.

And I'm not Buddhist so I don't really know if someone would say "Thank Buddha" when something good happens. unsure.gif It was just used for an example.

I don't know if you meant this as a pun, but if it is...haha nice.

Secondly, God requires faith and belief. When someone says Oh my God, it does not refer to one specific God, it refers to the higher power/being that person believes in.It doesn't have to be God, it can be whatever the person believes, but "God" in a general sense has become the word to represent higher being. Whether by fate, chance or God, we were formed from nothing, a Big Bang, and it is each person's opinion, faith or belief on how we came to be. There is no need to harp on people who say Thank God for good things that happen because it is what they believe.

For many religious people it seems that whenever they beat odds of 50-50 or lower it's a 'miracle'.
