I want to lose around 26kg.
I heard about the SOUTH BEACH DIET, but I just want to know more.
Let's share your experience here.

These what they said about the SOUTH BEACH DIET.

QUOTE
3 Phases to Success

The South Beach Diet is truly a food lover's diet. It's about living well and loving what you eat. But it's also practical, flexible, easy, and effective. The diet is divided into three Phases. The first Phase lasts two weeks and is designed to eliminate cravings and kick-start weight loss. The second Phase is intended to produce long-term, steady weight loss. You'll stay in Phase 2 until you reach a healthy weight. Then you'll move to Phase 3, the lifestyle Phase. This is how you'll eat and live 365 days a year - and it's the key to maintaining your new, healthy weight.

Phase 1, the shortest Phase, lasts for just two weeks and is designed to eliminate cravings for sugar and refined starches - and to jump-start your weight loss. The purpose of Phase 1 is to stabilize blood sugar (which minimizes cravings), making it ideal for people who are prediabetic or diabetic, as well as for those who need to lose a lot of weight.

The focus of this two-week period is on eating plenty of nutrient-dense, fiber-rich (and guaranteed delicious!) foods that satisfy your appetite. Your meals include lean protein, such as fish and other seafood; skinless white-meat poultry, and lean cuts of beef (vegetarians can enjoy meat substitutes, tofu, and beans); high-fiber veggies; reduced-fat cheeses; eggs; low-fat dairy; and healthy, unsaturated fats, such as those found in avocados, nuts and seeds, and extra-virgin olive and canola oils.

During Phase 1, you'll fill up on dishes like Chicken Breasts Stuffed With Spinach and Goat Cheese, Seared Pecan Salmon With Lentils, Garlic and Soy Grilled Pork Chops, and more.

The South Beach Diet encourages snacking, so you'll also get to choose two tasty snacks each day, like Spicy Nut Mix, reduced-fat cheese, and veggies with our zesty Peanut Dip. Plus, you'll dine on delicious desserts (every day!), including Chilled Espresso Custard, Heavenly Lemon Mousse, and our famed Ricotta Crme. With all the options - from gourmet meals to on-the-go snacks to quick weeknight dinners - you won't feel hungry or deprived!

Phase 2 is the long-term weight-loss Phase of the plan. It's also the perfect place to start for those people who have 10 pounds or less to lose, who don't have problems with cravings, who don't have excess belly fat, or who simply want to improve their health.

In Phase 2, you'll eat everything in Phase 1 plus good carbs, such as whole-grain bread, brown rice, whole-wheat pasta, fruits, and even more veggies, like sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and peas. Of course, you'll continue to enjoy snacks and dessert too, including dark chocolate!

In fact, you'll eat delicious meals, like Coconut Chicken, Shrimp Scampi, Pesto Pasta Salad, and Pork and Black Bean Quesadillas. Side dishes include Nutty Brown Rice and Baked Sweet Potato Fries. And don't forget snacks: Smoked Salmon Canaps With Horseradish Cream, Peppery Cheese Popcorn, and black bean dip with baked whole-grain tortilla chips are a few of the many snacks you'll choose from.

Then, cap off your dinner with a decadent dessert, like Green Tea Truffles, Chocolate Berry Cups, or Dark Chocolate Bark With Walnuts. Best of all, you'll eat all these delicious foods and still lose weight and get healthier.

By now, you've adopted the South Beach Diet lifestyle, making smart food choices that fit the way you live. That's what Phase 3 is all about, and it begins once you reach your healthy weight. In Phase 3, you'll continue to follow the principles you learned in Phases 1 and 2, but because it's the lifelong stage of the plan, it includes almost every kind of food and it allows for additional occasional indulgences. It is the key to maintaining a healthy weight for life.

On Phase 3, you can dine on meals like Dutch Apple Pancakes (a terrific weekend brunch), Chicken Pot Pie, Asian Chicken Salad With Wonton Crisps, and Pepper-Spiked Beef Stew. Phase 3-friendly sides include Farmers' Market Pasta Salad, Apple-Butternut Squash Soup, and corn on the cob. As for snacks, you can choose from fare like Triple Berry Cooler, Pecan-Stuffed Dates, and tropical fruit salad. And you'll indulge in desserts like Chocolate Pie With Crispy Peanut Butter Crust and Chocolate Fondue. Imagine eating this way for the rest of your life!

I tried this and it didn't work.

Although it allowed me to no longer crave for sweets and starches, what really worked for me was portion control and a hour and a half of exercising 5 days a week.

I tried the Atkins Diet, which is similar to South Beach but a lot stricter. I do agree with the above poster, in that it helps cut cravings. BUT, this way of living(Phase 3) was really hard for me to maintain. Once I added more carbs into my diet, my cravings came back BAD, and I gained all the weight back really quickly. I also found that low-carb diets are hard for asian people who eat rice everyday.

Instead, watch your calories. Keep a track of what you're eating. Sparkpeople.com helped me a lot.
If you still are going to try South Beach, and you want to lose 26 kg(!), you're gonna have to stay on Phase 1 and 2 longer.
wish you luck.

26kg is a lot of weight, i hope you're planning on sticking to whatever you decide for a long time.
This diet doesn't look like anything special. It could work but a lot of these diets are too strict.
Do not forget to include exercise in whatever diet you choose.

South beach really does work. However, you will be sick TO DEATH of eggs.
If you stick to the diet....really lifestyle changes, you will lose weight and keep it off.
If you get off the diet all together, you will gain it back. I lost 15 lbs (I am not really heavy)
on it in about 2 mo. time. I stayed on diet for about 3 mo. Once I got off of it and
just ate whatever I gained about 10 of it back, but slowly. I just can bear to go back
to stage one again.......just the thought of eggs makes me wanna barf.

I think the South Beach diet as some points, but I don't follow it very strictly though I keep some of their points in mind. For example, I avoid food like rice, pasta, and bread as much as possible without appearing rude to my hosts as well as avoid most desserts. In addition, I work out for an hour almost everyday, which isn't something specified in the South Beach diet. All in all, I appreciate the science of the South Beach diet but I feel most all diets are too extreme and deter the overall enjoyment of life; much of them focus on losing weight quickly.

I can lose more weight if I adhere to the South Beach diet strictly (which I have before) and I find I can lose five pounds without much problem within a week or so by cutting carbs out completely. It's not how I want to live, but there are occasions where I need to look good in a pinch.

I hope you only cut carbs for "one week" for an occasion only and not
on a consistent basis.

It's usually one week tops for special events after times where I don't have the ability to diet or exercise (midterm and finals are usually when I stop doing anything but sit in my bed and study and eat take out; it's bad, but there's pretty much no other way to re-read everything Kafka ever wrote in less than 3 days and write a 15 page paper while you're at it).

I remember studying about this diet really briefly at school. I remember that my lecturer said it (the South Beach Diet) was not a good diet because it didn't contain enough serves from all the five food groups.
I don't bother with diets, just eat healthily.

Is that so? sad.gif
I'm kinda getting afraid to continue this.
Oh, well. I went to gym three times a week along with my Mom.

I think I need the family supports to be successful in this diet.
My Mom didn't cook any rice or serve any breads, but serve fishes, salad, and Cheddar, so I still stick up to this diet up until now.
Now I lose 5kg.
I think this diet is kinda delicious. I can eat anything I want, not only eggs.
But yeah, the first big problem is the food. If you don't have any foods and beverages for this diet, you won't stick up with this diet for a long time.
Here are the foods I ate for the past last week:
Hope these will help you all. smile.gif

For the breakfast, I usually eat:
- Fried egg (with canola oil) with paprikas (cutted like a die) in it.
- A glass of tea with non-fat sugar replacement (Stevia, Tropicana Slim).
for those Stevia and Tropicana Slim, I don't know if those are available in US. But I knew this sugar replacement in
the book from the Agastson himself (translated into Indonesian)

- Spinach (trust me by eating this, you won't get starving until noon!)

And I usually eat non-fat cheese (Cheddar) at 10.00am to keep my energy.

Lunch:
- Fried fish.
- Usually vegetables. Such as brocolly.
- Mushroom (It's delicious!)

As for the dinner, I eat:
- Salad.
- Three slices of chicken.

you're not supposed to "stop the diet"...theres a third phase that you're supposed to stick to for life.
